Sony is aiming to break into the eSports business with the Playstation 4 in Spain.

According to GameReactor reporting on a Spanish Sony press conference, La Liga Oficial Playstation kicks off today and will feature tournaments of Battlefield 4, Call of Duty: Ghosts, FIFA 15 and War Thunder.

There are further plans to possibly include NBA 2K15, DriveClub, Battlefield: Hardline and Invokers Tournament later on.

The league will initially launch in Spain and be introduced to Portugal and Italy afterwards, implying that there is a plan to rollout the event to the rest of Europe at least.

Entrance to La Liga will also require a Playstation Plus subscription which is used to keep track of all points accumulated by participants.

The tournament is running from October 16 through to January 11 2015. The announcement made no mention of any kind of prize pool up for grabs.

Sony has had a limited amount of experience in the eSports scene through Planetside 2 which is published under the Sony Online Entertainment label. Planetside 2 started becoming a regular fixture at Major League Gaming tournaments back in January 2013.

The eSports scene has started attracting significant attention from large gaming companies. Dota 2’s The International managed to offer up a $13m prize pool this year that was comprised of a contribution from Valve and a crowd-funded amount raised through the sale of digital brochures for the tournament.
