EA opens Battlefield Hardline beta sign-up

Gamers with a 64-bit Windows 7 or Windows 8 install, or with a PS4, can sign up for entry into the closed Battlefield Hardline beta now.

Electronic Arts has officially announced sign-ups for a closed beta of its latest Battlefield title, Battlefield Hardline, for Windows PC and PlayStation 4 gamers.

Unveiled earlier this week at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3), Battlefield Hardline shifts the perspective of the game away from the usual soldiers at war to a bloody game of cops and robbers. As well as what the company describes as a 'visceral' single-player experience, Battlefield Hardline is due to launch with the multiplayer features for which the series has become known - although hopefully with few of the bugs and issues that plagued the launch of its predecessor Battlefield 4.

The game is due to launch on the 21st of October, but gamers eager to try it out in advance can sign up for a closed beta programme now. The game is being made available for testing on Windows 7 and 8 PCs with a 64-bit operating system installed, and on Sony's latest PS4 console. Oddly, 32-bit Windows systems and those running Vista or older are being excluded, as are PS3, Xbox One and Xbox 360 owners - despite the game being due to launch on all four platforms later this year.

EA has indicated that places on the beta are strictly limited, but has not provided clues as to just how limited. If you're interested, you can try your luck by putting your name down on the official sign-up page now.

Why is the name Battlefield?
I can't think of a game with cops and robbers with the name "Battlefield"...

Why not a new MOH... "MOH: Cops", or whatever...

'Cos Police don't qualify for the Medal of Honor (sic).

Because battlefield is the franchise name. It's not going to sell as well without the franchise name.

Don't worry if you can't get in. Everyone will be beta testing this game 12 months after release!

I got in right away. I can tell you that the gameplay is exactly the same as BF4. It is literally a skin change. Ofcourse there are new modes more suitable for cops and robbers. But everything else is a carbon copy of BF4. The menus, the mechanics, the loading screens, the chat, the hud. It is just BF4.
I am kind of shocked that they are trying to get people to pay £50 to pre-order this. Honestly it is that similar that you could pass it off as DLC for BF4.

It is quite fun to play, but there is no way I would pay full price for this, even half price, having already bought BF4 and premium, I could not justify buying Hardline, that is how much like BF4 it is.

This is EA.
Reskinning games is what they do best. :)

I am a big battlefield fan. I sunk 900+ hours into BF2 and 200+ hours into BC2 and I think I scratched 80 hours in BF3 which I played way past the enjoyment wearing off. BF4 beta just moved further away from what the franchise was about in my eyes. I'm a part of two "communities" which were BF oriented one has wholly moved on to other games, the other while still having a BF4 server has a few members which have skipped BF4 and it looks like the number that will avoid future titles may increase. I think EA/Dice have just chosen to take the easy cash catering to the gamers looking for COD like gratification.
