Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare announced

Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare announced

The announcement trailer features narration from Kevin Spacey and lots of elements of near-future technology being used.

The next Call of Duty title has been officially announced by Activision.

Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare will feature near-future technology and the story pits players against a rogue private military corporation that turns on the US government.

The announcement trailer reveals that the head of the rogue group played by actor Kevin Spacey who narrates throughout and the fancy technology that players will be interacting with includes exo-skeleton suits, drones and hoverbikes.

The trailer also features soldiers jumping large distances, punching through tanks, climbing vertical services and employing cloaking devices.

Ahead of the announcement, Activision also released a short mini-documentary produced by Vice about private military corporations, opening with ‘in the next Call of Duty, the world’s most powerful military is not a country. It’s a corporation. Could this actually happen?’

Advanced Warfare is being developed by Sledgehammer Games, who also assisted Infinity Ward on the development of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. The game is due for release on November 4.

Details of the new Call of Duty titles were initially leaked yesterday evening with Activision promptly confirming the leak and releasing the trailer two days ahead of its intended schedule.

The most recent entry to the Call of Duty series, Ghosts, was released last November and has received two sets of DLC. The title did not sell as well as its predecessor, Call of Duty: Black Ops 2, which Activision blamed on the uncertainty over the transition to the Playstation 4 and Xbox One. Despite this, it was still 2013’s second highest selling game behind Grand Theft Auto 5.

Wonder how much it cost MS to get that plug...

Given that the last game SHG worked on in the Call Of Duty line up was Modern Warfare 3, I would think it will be a smooth experience when playing, as long as they use Dedicated servers rather than P2P hosting.

The graphics engine looks like it may have finally been changed but only time will tell.

I doubt I will be buying this game and it will take a fair bit to change my mind after the state of Ghost's.

If that's rendered by the X-bone, I'm guessing it's 480i@15fps.

Hmm.

The cynic in me thinks 'oh, another COD'. The optimist in me thinks 'KEWL! Futuristic tech stuff and a suit like Crysis!'

I think I like the look of it.

most probably 720@60fps (its the focus of all COD games as minimum), one can only hope with the maturity of the console will get it to 900p@60fps. i'd be jawdropingly surprised it would push 1080@60fps though :p

Wow that XBone trailer looks pretty awesome... It's almost as good as PC games used to look.

Climbing a wall with handy gloves.. The question is, how many walls per level will the rail shooter allow me to climb? My guess is 2: Press E to climb... keep tapping!!

Huh, that's taking "played by Kevin Spacey" more literally than I imagined. He's pretty fitting for the role, but it's kind of awkward seeing a digital recreation of the actor himself rather than just being the voice. Slipping into the Uncanny Valley methinks.

The Ellen Paige clone in The Last of Us gave me the same feeling. I hope it doesn't become popular. Actors play roles, they're intended to be a representation of a fictional person. When you have the freedom to create the character exactly as it's inteded to be why still limit yourself to the appearances of actors?

Quite the optimist. My bet's on just once in the singleplayer, never in the multiplayer.

apparently this is the first of the `next gen` only COD games.
