Original Neo Geo creator SNK Playmore has demanded that all Neo Geo X consoles are pulled from store shelves following the termination of a licensing agreement.
The Neo Geo X launched in December 2012 with the price tag of $199.
SNK had an agreement with Tommo allowing the company to build and sell the Neo Geo X handheld in North America. The demand has called a stop to all manufacturing, distribution, marketing and promotion of the handheld.
'Decisive measures will be taken against all unapproved NEOGEO X products not subject to the License Agreement,'
said SNK in a press release announcing the move.
The license was terminated on 2 October and it affects the Neo Geo X Gold package, the SNK Neo Geo X Arcade Stick peripheral and six Neo Geo X game compilations.
The Neo Geo X launched in December 2012 and sold for $199 in a package including the docking station and arcade stick. The console was distributed by Tommo in North America and Blaze in Europe.
How European distributor Blaze will be affected by this license termination and demands for products to be pulled from shelves is currently uncertain.
At its release, the Neo Geo X was criticised for its display quality, in particular when titles were scaled up to modern televisions. A lack of digital distribution was also noted as a let down for the system.
