CCP announces EVE:Valkyrie for Oculus Rift

EVE:Valkyrie will be the second spin-off title from EVE Online following Dust 514 on the Playstation 3.

EVE Online developer CCP has announced a multiplayer space combat spin-off title from its brutally cruel MMO based around the Oculus Rift hardware.

EVE: Valkyrie is built around a tech demo that CCP built called EVR that took its space-economy MMO title into the Oculus Rift’s virtual reality environment. It is not yet clear if the game will be playable without the Oculus Rift or if it will even have a single player campaign.

CCP decided to work on the title after fan reaction to EVR was so strong.

’From the moment this year's Fanfest attendees first got their hands on EVE-VR, the question has been, “When can I have this?”’ said CCP chief executive Hilmar Veigar Pétursson. ’What started as a passion project by a small, incredibly talented group of CCP developers became one of the most highly anticipated games of the year, before we even announced it.’

The spin-off will be coming to the PC in 2014 and is being developed at CCP’s Newcastle studio. The developers will be releasing more information later this year.

EVE: Valkyrie will be CCP’s second spin-off title with free-to-play team-based multiplayer first person shooter Dust 514 launching on the Playstation 3 in May this year. Dust 514 players can join EVE corporations, and actions in one game world can affect actions in the other. Fans will undoubtedly be hoping for a similar cross-game functionality from Valkyrie.

CCP is one of those developers willing to take risks and try something new. I applaud them, allthough I stopped playing EvE over a year ago.

I'd like them to put more manpower on WoD tho.

I am excited by all things Occulus related. Eve being on the Rift will be a tranquil, spiritual experience!!
