Lego Marvel Super Heroes announced

Lego Marvel Super Heroes will feature more than 100 characters from the Marvel universe.

The next franchise to get the TT Games' Lego treatment is none other than the Marvel comics.

Coming to the Xbox 360, Playstation 3, Wii U, PC, DS and PS Vita in Autumn 2013, Lego Marvel Super Heroes will feature an original storyline that's not tied to any of the recent films or events from the regular comic books.

The story will centre on Nick Fury calling in the Marvel heroes to save the earth from threats including Loki and Galactus and the game will feature more than 100 playable characters from the pages of Marvel's extensive library, including Spider-man, the Fantastic Four, the X-Men, the Avengers and the slightly more obscure Guardians of the Galaxy.

'Fans of both LEGO and Marvel have wanted this game for years, and we’re addressing that demand with more Marvel Universe characters than ever in a console game,' said Marvel Entertainment vice-president of games production TQ Jefferson.

Outside of the gaming world, Lego currently has eight physical kits based in the Marvel universe available in shops and is planning to release more sets tied into the release of Iron Man 3 in the Spring.

Starting back in 2005 with an unexpectedly excellent Lego version of the Star Wars prequel trilogy, TT Games has gone on to create Lego games of several major franchises including Indiana Jones, Pirates of the Carribean and Marvel-rival DC's comic book characters. The most recent series to become Lego-fied was Lord of the Rings, which received a warm critical reception at the end of 2012.
