The original release date for Black Mesa Source was 2009.
The long awaited Half-Life reskin mod, Black Mesa Source, has been given a release date of September 14.
The mod, developed by a team of 40 volunteers, consists of a complete overhaul of the original Half-Life using the source engine from Half-Life 2. This includes new character models, textures and a selection of redesigned levels.
The version being released will take players to the end of Lambda Core and won't include the final series of levels set on the alien planet of Xen as the mod's team is still working on this. The team also stated that Xen will be expanded beyond the original game and will be more than just an epilogue to the mod.
The mod team is also still working on the Black Mesa Deathmatch multiplayer mode which will be released at a later date.
Black Mesa Source will be free to download from the mod's website next Friday. A soundtrack will also be available for download on a pay-what-you-want basis.
"We're doing our best to help bring the immense vision of this project into reality, and we are very excited for what the future brings," said Black Mesa Source project leader Carlos Montero.
The much anticipated community developed mod has been in development since Half-Life 2 was released in 2004 and was previously slated for a 2009 release.

it's free -_-
Best kind of shopping!
I got fed up of seeing "we've always gone with a 'when it's done' kind of approach" every time I checked for a finish date. It was slightly amusing at first, aping Valve a little, but I've want this for ages. :D
It is indeed but I will be donating $20 because I feel their hard work and commitment over the years should be rewarded.
There I said it.
That's Mr Bum-face to you :P
*Wink*
In the sky!
Its a squadron of flying pigs, silhouetted against a blue moon and they're coming this way!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm in there and I will make a donation, they've worked on this a long time, I just hope it works.
...and well said, it was! ;)
What if it sucks? Or what if you're already a bum-face?
Or rather, since you said "is a bum-face" without specifying how long the individual has been one, that may imply that the person has already been of the genus, bum-face, prior to the decision of downloading. You can't just decide to change your biological makeup. That being said, if you are not a bum-face and you don't plan to donate, then I guess that just makes you a literary asshole.
I'll download it, have a play, and then make the call as to how much I want to donate. Unless it stinks something rotten (which I'm certain it won't), I'll give the devs some dollar.
bum chin is very different from bum face
Nice to see it's finally done :)

That said, I will be throwing a party when the outmoded dx9 Source engine is DEAD. Kill it with FIRE!!
Everything in 2012 onward should be DX11.
S*D
haha, fat chance. ;)
