Gears of Glory: Apex Ace announced

Gears of Glory: Apex Ace is a competitive racing game with a social focus.

Indie developer Domipheus Labs has announced a new competitive racing game, a PC-only top-down racer dubbed Gears of Glory: Apex Ace.

Gears of Glory is the first game to come from the recently-formed Domipheus Labs and, according to founder Colin Riley, aims to combine fierce multiplayer battles with a pick-up-and-play feature set. This is mainly achieved through the combination of a simple control system and advanced stats-tracking on the back end.

In Gears of Glory players can race through 24 season tier circuits, with achievements, challenges and leaderboards all on offer too. An in-built news system feeds players rankings and comparisons to other players and friends.

Set for release in May 2012, Gears of Glory will launch exclusively on indie game distributor Indiecity, where Colin says it will "be priced around that of an espresso from popular coffee houses".

"For those players who only have a few minutes free to play, they can immediately launch a challenge from the main screen and gain a reward for everyone to see," says Colin.

"However they may come back to the game later to find a friend has knocked them off their leaderboard spot, and the defeat is on the front page of the in-game newspaper, the Gear Times. The game world is designed to be constantly evolving and resting on ones laurels will prove costly in the global rankings."

A track builder will also be included with the final release to increase replay value - but you can read more about the game at the official site.
