Diablo 3 release date back to 2012

Diablo is still waiting for you

Despite the recent release of a closed beta, Blizzard has just announced that it's next-gen hack'n'slash, Diablo III, will not be released this year after all.

Mike Morhaine, CEO of Blizzard, explained that 'With every game we make, the temptation is always very strong to launch as soon as possible. However, we didn't put so many years of work into Diablo III to release a game that was almost ready'.

Diablo III was rumoured back in February to be one of the two games that Blizzard would release in 2012, but then had its release date changed to 2011. The announcement by Morhaine appears to be a U-turn on the 2011 release date.

'The beta test is going very well, and we look forward to making the most of the extra time we're taking to deliver an experience that lives up to our vision for the game and the expectations of our players.'

'Next year is going to be an incredibly busy one for Blizzard, and we hope an incredibly fun one for Blizzard gamers.' The other game rumoured to be in Blizzard's 2012 plans is StarCraft 2: Heart of the Swarm, a follow-on expansion from the previous Wings of Liberty add-on.

Are you disappointed that Blizzard has decided to delay the release of Diablo III until 2012, or are you relieved, given the huge number of top titles due for release before Christmas?

Alternatively, have you already tried the beta and think that the game needs a lot more work?

Let us know your thoughts in the forum.

Waited this long, a few more months isn't going to kill me. Didn't they say something akin to : It will be ready when it's ready ...
GuilleAcoustic 23rd September 2011, 16:34 Quote
Maybe they've encountered some disconnection. Dev must be always on to code

I check the blizz forums about 5 times a day for news but if the games not ready then so be it hold it back. I will have to delete my Diablo 3 bookmarks to stop myself from going mad.

just might mean i plaqy torchlight 2 for a few more months

If the delay-time is spent implementing offline characters and allowing us to play the game without a constant connection then the game will return to being a day-one purchase for me.
Otherwise I'll give it a miss.

It's a matter of principle for me, but it's also a matter of practicality. I'm not going to spend €50 on a game that I can't enjoy reliably because of their crappy drm not accounting for my crappy connection. If it were a game that simply wouldn't work in singleplayer in design terms I wouldn't mind so much, but D3, as with its predecessors, looks perfectly fine as a singleplayer game and that's how I'd want to play it.

Maybe its taking so long becuase the developers can only do work when they login to their blizzard developer account then their account for Diablo3. When the remoter server authenticates them they can start work provided their connections and the server stay up.

There was me thinking that Diablo II was released back in 2000..

That might not be too far from the truth considering how most corporations network their PCs.

they're probably going to release at the same time guildwars 2 comes out.. probably figured the playerbase jump ship a couple months later if they released it before.. it's the same people they're after and gw2 is looking to be pretty good

Always Online DRM .... sadly I won't be playing this game.

Good old Blizzard, never bowing to financial stuff and just releasing games when they are ready :)

I'm not childish as you suggested, I just have à crappy connnection that resets itself tenth à day. I dont want to pay for à game I won't be able to play decently.

I'm happy for you if you have à good connection, but you are not alone on earth.

How can anyone be relieved that Diablo III will be released in 2012 xD
Digi 24th September 2011, 00:26 Quote
Bloody blizzard *******s. And with that alliteration I say farewell.
LukeyFella 24th September 2011, 00:59 Quote
Much like StarCraft 2, I will buy it but I know it won't be worth the wait. How many more years do they need? How much more staff? Compare that to bioware/ guildwars... The somehow make amazing games without making fans wait 10 years.

or are you relieved, given the huge number of top titles due for release before Christmas?

That's the ONLY reason they doing it. The game is finished. They'd have to be stupid to launch at this stage of production and still have code to plug in.

Gears: Released (Sept 20th)
Battlefield 3: Oct 25th
Modern Warfare 3: Nov 8th
Skyrim: Nov 11th
Halo 4: Dec 31st

I'm sorry, but who with an IQ over 10 would release their game in the middle of that?! Q1 2012, all you have to work against is Mass Effect 3 (March 6th)

So long as I get my new computer up and running by the time they release it I'll be buying it day one.

Absolute *tosh*. I've never heard such *tosh*in my life. Do you think Blizzard care about BF3? Some *rubbish* CoD or Halo game? Do you know anything about Blizzard and how long they take to cultivate their games?
NethLyn 24th September 2011, 13:31 Quote
New Year's Eve for Halo 4? MS is either confident the name will sell it, or they don't want to push the first non-Bungie sequel (unless this is the last one), it'll be interesting to see if people bother waiting until after Christmas for it when it doesn't even fit into the last minute present bracket.

Diablo, since there's that big a hardcore fanbase waiting for the third game, it has to be as perfect as possible on release - so they'll stand to wait three more months.

I'm looking forward to Diablo III, but I'm also very much looking forward to Grim Dawn! Multiple class combinations FTW!

Ok, that is actually a good reason. I thought you were just one of those anti DRM for the sake of being anti DRM type people. I revoke my last post and hope you get better internet

I have a feeling this won't be the last delay in Diablo 3 release. I'm not complaining, but it's very common for Blizzard to keep improving their games until the devs are satisfied. Anyway, there should be enough games to play until the end of '11 with the release of BF3 and Skyrim. Maybe I'll even get into Dota 2 beta =D

Yeah smart to compare SP game to legendary coop title. Go ahead play that SP game, there is millions of ppl who just dont pay SP anymore unless its Bioware or Elder Scrolls

Seems you never heard about Grim Dawn, or who their creators are.
Probably the name of Titan Quest means something then?
