Original Crysis heading to consoles in October

Crytek will launch a remastered version of the original Crysis for consoles next month.

Crytek has announced that it will launch a 'remastered' version of the original Crysis on consoles next month.

The new version of Crytek's formally PC-exclusive shooter will include new controls, new lighting and 'all new effects' according to a video reveal on GameTrailers.

A specific launch date beyond October 2011 has not been announced, but the game is confirmed for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 consoles.

The announcement confirms previous rumours that Crytek was working on a console port of Crysis.

First released in 2007, the original Crysis spawned two sequel, Crysis: Warhead and Crysis 2, the latter appearing on both consoles and PC. Predictably, the PC version looked much better.

You can read our Crysis review and graphical analysis for more information on the game, or just let us know your thoughts in the forums.

Surely they just threw it into the new engine and scaled back the areas that were still too big? It would be cool to get new engine/DX11 treatment on the PC side, if a tad unnecessary.

Added effect: Shart smear.

To add that quintessential console goodness.

It's going to look terrible. If my 580 at 1ghz struggles to run it, my 360 will eat it up and spit it out while choking itself on a RROD.

How have you got to 1Ghz?

Seriously? a 580 struggles with it? what res? I can run it smoothly enough with the highest detail on 512MB 9800GTX+'s in SLI mode.

PS what is Shart Smear?

A PC game being ported to console, surely these days that is some sort of taboo in the dev industry...

So... instead of fixing issues in C2 they are making a good game worse... again. Right.

Anyone else notice that the armour mode has the effect around the edges so people know they are in it? :P

How I got it to 1ghz: watercooling. And yes, running it at 2560*1440 at full antialiasing screws it over. As for shart smearing, imagine running crysis maxed out on your gaming pc. Now rub the screen with a turd. Now you have console quality :D

no, more to the point why would you care about DX11 for C1? it was so sloppily applied to C2 that id rather stock DX10

Nothing too special really. seems like a mix between medium and high settings. That framerate is horrendous though.

Looks like they copied the suit controls from the second game to over here.

They were also unsustainable. One guy doing that many reviews of that scope for games of that length every week? The good old days weren't all good.

Surely full aa is unneeded at that res i can't tell the difference between anything higher than x4 MSAA at 1920x1200

I heard the aliens attack from the backside in the console version.. I dunno man, remember a console only has to put out 30fps- and looks crazy bad.. be hard to get the same feel you got on the pc, especially with the controller- that was what was so good about crysis for me.. the control was definitely there- like a old school fps

Wow, the reviews back there were far better then they are now, it's shame BT is not big enough to have a larger team to sustain that kinda quality. Anyone know of another site that offers this kinda reviewing still?

The reviews were fundamentally the same, actually - they just had this graphics stuff bolted on the end which, from the traffic stats, nobody ever read anyway. We did the same in the magazine for a while, but again it didn't prove too popular.

We still look at games in this way when the justify it - as we have done with Crysis 2, for example and as we will be doing with The Witcher 2, hopefully - but the reality is that most games don't require it. Readers don't need us to tell them that they need to A) meet the recommended requirements and B) turn the settings to High if they want the game to look better.

We've changed the lighting - so it's remastered. Oh but you may notice some of the textures are missing, and the draw distance. Oh, might want to ignore the lack of foliage too...

In fact just play it on PC if you can.

Many thanks,

What's the point of the misleading (flatout lie) title of this article?
"Original Crysis..." does not equal "Remastered...", in the very first sentence in the body of this article.
The title should have been, "Console Version of Crysis Due in October". This says it all. It leaves no one a single thing to complain about. No reason to compare it to the PC version. Nothing even close to being controversial.
It's easy to see why the author fails to identify his/her self as anything other than an alias. I'd be ashamed, too.
I used to love British journalism. News "readers", not news "Reporters." Statements of fact, not fiction. It's a damned shame you British journalists have gone and become Americanized. You've become another turd in the world of s*** journalism. Congratulations. I'd offer you a "low-five" but I can't possibly reach that low. Besides. It's slimy down there.
You actually work for Rupert Murdoch don't you? That would explain it.

"Original Crysis" helps to clarify that it is the first (original) Crysis and not Crysis II or Crysis Warhead.

Going OT here but the UK news industry has always had examples of the best and worst in journalism. Compared to some of the utter tripe labelled as "mainstream media", sites like this are a haven of objectivity (before anyone accuses me of sucking up to mods, that isn't much of a compliment).

What a risible piece of marketing speak that is. It sounds awfully like the way Crysis 2 was described.

love the fact that nearly half the footage in that trailer is pre-rendered cinematics! It may go down well with the console people as they thought crysis 2 was "the best thing since black ops" XD but it's still gonna fail terribly in mine and they eyes of all other PC gamers.

Meh, people can complain but if you can't afford a decent PC and already have a console around I can't see the harm in picking this up

Deders 10th September 2011, 22:01 Quote
Mastering in audio terms is taking the mix from the studio and making sure each track sounds like it's on the same album, and then making a different version that works best for each format, eg LP, CD or even tape.

We'll always have the best version of Crysis (somehow I doubt the consoles will manage parallax mapping, and lack of foliage will give less gameplay options etc) but I guess it's a chance to tell the story from the beginning for those who are several years behind.

As for DX11, it would be nice to see what tesselation would do in place of parallax mapping, and how well it would perform with the updated engine.

Not well if it's done in the same way as crysis 2 is. Know what the most heavily tessellated object in the game is? A concrete traffic barrier. And the only noticeable difference between DX9 and DX11 for that is a tiny protrusion on the top...
