Activision has confirmed dedicated servers for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 at GamesCom 2011.
Activision and Infinity Ward have confirmed that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 will have dedicated server support at GamesCom 2011.
'
The big announcement today is that we're supporting dedicated servers for PC, which is really cool,' said Noah Heller, who works at Beachhead Studios on Call of Duty: Elite in a comment to
Eurogamer.
'
And of course we're working really hard right now on the customised version of Elite for the PC [versions of Call of Duty games], because it's an open platform and has some challenges.'
We saw
Modern Warfare 3 recently and were...nonplussed.
We'll be catching up with Activision at GamesCom 2011 tomorrow, however - so stay tuned for more news and be sure to let us know what you think in
the forums.
Check our GamesCom 2011 news hub for all the information from Cologne this year.
It won't be long before you can try those dedicated servers for yourself, but in the meantime videos will have suffice:

mmm-hm
:D
Who cares about CoD anyway?
Who woulda thought dedicated servers were possible.......
Hang on.....what year is this.......2001 right??
As was posted at the top, bf3's trailer is just a little more impressive me thinks...
The new BF3 trailer the other day just totally blows MW3 out of the water. I really do hope that BF3 outsells MW3 by a huge margin. It will on PC thats a dead cert, I just fear the console kids wont care for quality and gameplay.
Verdict: Still same cramped corridor like fragfest, which while fun, doesn't give the opportunity for more cohesive and team based gameplay as BF3 would offer.
Plus no jets to pilot. I like jets, and loots of boom.
I'll go out and say it as no one else is, I'm MASSIVELY looking forward to this game. I've even taken 8-11'th Nov off from work to prestige a couple times.
I as well as several million others just simply prefer the faster pace of it. Sure BC2 vehicle combat was great, but I would alt-F4 if my tank blew up rather than run around controlling a 500pound peg legged bb-gun wielding excuse for a soldier.
So yea, come at me bro's.
I'll come at you like an eager mailman.
I'll move through you like soft cheese.
I'll come at you with the fury of a thousand suns.
Tit.
Oh dear.. you poor child. :(
I've said it before and I'll say it again. I didn't by CODBLOPS and I won't be buying any other Call of Trollop: Modern Rubbish titles either.
....You absolute loser.
And lol at CoD. Anyone else see the butthurt from Eric Hirshberg about EA wanting CoD to "rot from the core"?
as for MW3, ill wait for it to be released before judging it, but im not hopeful
Objective: Look like idiot
Result: Achieved
Swing and a miss dear, and by the looks of your avatar if that's anyway relevant I've got you by a couple years mate.
Hah your opinion differs from mine, lets have at eachother then sure. You're a a a aaaa dickhead!
...
Easy boy, you're gonna hurt my feelings.
On a slightly similar note, I was under the impression that all of the BF fans were supposed to be the mature ones, and that cod fans were immature kids.
Suddenly that aspect of the quarrel shrivels away.
EA said the other day that star wars old republic pre orders out strip all there other games put together on pre orders, Which makes me think bf 3 has had very limited pre order sales at the minute
All the previous cod games have sold millions in days from the release i dont expect this to be alot different.
BF3 will be for the hardcore FPS person
COD mw3 will be for the casual FPS person
theres more casuals than hardcore people.
No amount of Origin+Battlelog will reach the level of community integration that Steam has. To top that, Steam carries the same community to all games being sold there, Battlelog will be a one-game portal.
Its the same situation I had a year ago with Starcraft 2 and Battle.net service, as usual added Starcraft 2 as a non-Steam game to Steam and my experience wasnt as good as it should have been. It was a nightmare to manage both communities while in game; popups, UIs, etc.
I expect BF3 sales to perform well at release. It is a AAA game with AAA marketing and hype generating machine, distributed by EA, a monster in publishing.
It will have a large following in the early months of its release, then new AAA games will be released and BF3 community will dwindle. Battlelog, being a restricted and closed community, will be filled only by the hardcore fans of BF3, with some new blood entering when DLC is released, and some old members returning to see what the DLC brings.
Not quite the fury of a thousands suns.
Perhaps that would be a valid point if made by someone else, but it came from you after all those limp childish comebacks, so the status quo is restored.
I don't have a problem with you looking forward to MW3, I don't even like BF games, but if your going troll, at least be good at it and practice your comebacks first.
My replies were simply the fury I could muster based upon their replies, or attacks if you wish.
No restoration of the status quo was made here today.
Out of interest are you playing the PC or console version or CoD. I enjoyed blops, as i didn't get MW2, and i enjoyed the new multiplayer stuff, however to me it seemed more like an expansion rather than a whole new game.
I've pre-ordered BF3 and i'm looking forward to that, I might get cod, if i can persuade people on my clan to get it after its out, if it is any good, if not no biggy. I just hope that the better game gets more sales rather than the great unwashed seeing a brand and buying it.
funny how this DLC have made dedicated server a special feature, forgetting how this basic "feature" was brutally ripped out of the game in 4.1.
It's an FPS and I care about my stats and performance in public and pcw's, so I naturally play the PC versions. Anything other than FPS/MMORPG I'd most likely get on ps3 or xbox.
Well in cases where the game's PC version offers vastly superior graphics like The Witcher 2 for example, I'm glad I got the PC version.
Exactly.
Yup. I was a massive fan of the 1st 4 games, played them all to death.
MW2 was a nightmare on the PC and really killed it for me. Getting an actual game going was far too much hassle and I always disconnected after a 'server migration'. Never bought Blops.
Mate, you've logged into the wrong site.
You've accidentally commented on Bit-Tech instead of posting your status on your Face-ache Wall.
I know they are both blue themed, but Face-ache is where you are supposed to post semi-literate inanities.
Plus, your "bro's" would be far more appreciative of your CODBLOPS: MW15 gushing.
PS. Are your fingers crossed that MW3 isn't delayed a week?
+1 i ll enjoy this and battlefield, no problems for me...everyone hates cod but i dont care, i love the SP its like playing a massive budget hollywood blockbuster lol. MP looks good fun too, dont see why we can enjoy both games :D
Then it's all gone downhill from there. I wish I'd never bought BLOPS. I'll be giving this a miss.
Firstly, saying dedicated servers are back is cool, is admitting that removing them was uncool. Thanks for that.
Secondly, COD titles are brainless, fast paced FUN. Battlefield titles are more strategic, longer, multifaceted FUN.
Both can be fun. Sure, the cash cow is milked with the COD series, but I've had some fun on them. And even if I only play them for about and hour a night for 2 weeks. Its cost me around £2 per night. And you can't do anything for that these days.
I am looking forward to battlefield 3. It looks awesome. But occaisonally I might jump back on the COD wagon for some fast paced brainless nonsense. Because sometimes thats just what you need.
don't know why in particular but something just doesn't fit in this game this time round
but looks okay i think
Consoles killed the market for good PC FPS games.
