Blizzard: No plans for Starcraft MMO

Blizzard has no plans to even develop a StarCraft MMO, since it claims it is too busy right now.

Speaking at GamesCom 2011 in Cologne today, Blizzard has said it currently has no plans to even develop at StarCraft 2 MMO, claiming it is far too busy with other projects at the moment.

'We definitely feel like all the worlds we create would lend themselves well to multiple genres and multiple forms of media,' said Blizzard co-founder Frank Pearce, cagily.

'If there was a development team within Blizzard that was free and available to create a StarCraft MMO and that was something they were really passionate about then we would certainly consider it...But right now..., we've got our hands full with everything we're doing.'

'We don't really have any plans to do anything beyond the StarCraft RTSes and the expansions right now,' he clarified.

Blizzard is currently working on StarCraft: Heart of the Swarm, the Zerg-focused follow-up to StarCraft 2, plus World of WarCraft, Diablo 3 and the mysterious Project Titan.

StarCraft has a strong storyline to it, as the Old Rivals trailer below shows, though you'd need a heck of a lot of friends and clan members to really create a Zurg rush in a StarCraft MMO...

I don't mind.. at all. The RTSes are more fun anyway.

Considering they are developing the next Starcraft 2 game, Diablo 3, an unannounced MMO, and WoW expansions and content, its perfectly believable that they have their hands full,

It would be nice to hear any news you have about "the mysterious Project Titan"

all the worlds we create
Can anybody tell me which worlds the people working currently in Blizzard have created?

Who said anything about the current blizzard employees? You added that yourself.

Blizzard is a company not a bunch of individuals.

I believe the founder and several of the employees that started the company are still there today.

I don't think Starcraft would really lend itself well to the MMO style anywyays, but I'm still massively disappointed that we never saw the Ghost spinoff. THAT'S something I still want to play eventually, though Blizzard really isn't known for FPS and would probably botch it anyway unelss they subcontracted id or something.

Far too busy, and also far too smart.

Blizzard knows best that few gamers play more than one MMO concurrently and that, if they see success anywhere near WoW's, an MMO will live for at least a couple years. With Project Titan in the works and WoW still alive and kicking there's just no room for a Starcraft MMO without cannibalizing some of their own playerbase.
