In the run-up to GamesCom 2011, PC strategy and RPG developer Wargaming.net has announced a second follow-up to smash hit MMO World of Tanks - World of Battleships.

World of Battleships is, along with World of Tanks and World of Warplanes, the third in Wargaming.net's World of... series - though only World of Tanks is currently available to play.

Confirmed as adhering to the same free-to-play mould as World of Tanks, World of Battleships will...well, it'll be like World of Tanks, but with Battleships instead.

'The large assortment of available warships will give various tactical opportunities, as all the machines have a unique combination of firepower, speed, armor, and endurance,' says the official announcement.

'Various naval maps with changing weather conditions will enrich the gameplay, and the realistic graphics will transport players into the epic battles that changed the course of human history.'

We'll be catching up with Wargaming.net at GamesCom 2011 in Cologne over the next few days, so we'll bring you more information as we get it. Until then, let us know your thoughts in the forums.
