EA confirms Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning release date

Electronic Arts has confirmed a February 2012 release date for Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning.

Electronic Arts and developer 38 Studios have announced a release date for upcoming RPG Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning at EA's press conference ahead of GamesCom 2011.

Speaking on stage, Kingdoms' lead designer Ken Rolston - who has previously worked on titles such as Morrowind - confirmed that the game will be released on 10 February 2012.

We haven't yet seen Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning in any detail ourselves, but we plan to get a better look at the game over the course of the show.

All we do know is that it is an open-world RPG with a combat engine similar to the original The Witcher, where action is determined by the timing of button presses.

We'll bring you further impressions of the game when we have them, but until then you can let us know your thoughts in the forums.

Check our GamesCom 2011 news hub for all the information from Cologne this year.

This trailer might shed some light on the Kingdoms of Amalur conundrum, give it a watch and let us know what you think in the forums:

Judging solely by that picture, this game will be great.

Ken who?

... and why Ken is not the front PA guy...

... chuckle. Quite a character Ken, it will indeed be interesting to see what he gets up to now he's separated from Todd 'The Hatchet' Howard.

Looking at the following I remain undecided, but judging an RPG from combat alone is like judging a restaurant by looking the cutlery... I may yet be surprised, 'you should always remain sceptical until the game is actually in your hands' :)

Oh, yes, the following...

The audience needs more fan boys!
