Bioware and Electronic Arts have revealed a new character who will appear in upcoming RPG sequel, Mass Effect 3. James Vega will be a recuitable human male character who can join Shephard's squad in the fight against the Reapers.

Vega, who was formerly known as James Sanders, was revealed on Twitter by Bioware's Casey Hudson and Preston Watamaniuk.

Vega is described as having a bodybuilder's physique and being a character who focuses more on function and survivability than form firepower. Bioware has designed him to be a defensive soldier, able to soak up a lot of damage thanks to his head-to-toe black armour.

'We have fun with our ensemble casts: chars are designed to be loved by some players but not all.' said Hudson, in reaction to a mixed fan reaction.

The change of surname from Sanders to Vega likely ruins speculation that James was to be attached to the main character of the Mass Effect novels, Kahlee Sanders.

Mass Effect 3 is currently set for release on March 6th, 2012. Let us know your thoughts in the forums.
