Square Enix has announced a 2012 release Crystal Dynamics' upcoming Tomb Raider reboot.
Square Enix has announced a release date for Crystal Dynamics' upcoming Tomb Raider reboot, setting the game for a Q4 2012 launch.
A new trailer has been released too, which you can watch below. This will be the tenth game in the Tomb Raider series, as well as the second time that the franchise has been rebooted.
According to Crystal Dynamics, this latest Tomb Raider title will be more of a survival horror title and will represent an origin story for the Tomb Raider character. Lara will begin the game as a young woman setting out on an expedition aboard the ship Endurance, but gets ship-wrecked on a strange island with hostile inhabitants.
Crystal Dynamics' previous game in the Tomb Raider series, Underworld, followed on from a previous reboot of the series, Legend, and told of Lara's efforts to free her mother from a spiritual realm. We quite liked it too, so check out out

do I need to?
This is Lara's origin story, she hasn't had her breast implants yet. Duh.
I actually love how this looks, including Lara Croft. Never thought I would find her attractive so props to Crystal Dynamics on art direction at least. Q4 2012 is a long time away though, considering the length of time they've been working on this. Here's hoping for something amazing.
Where's the swagger?
I'd argue you there - they're perfectly proper boobs right there.
oh and Tomb raider trailer, imma let you finish, but Dead Island had one of the best game trailers of all time. Of ALL time!
Does she hang a monkey? ;)
Plus Uncharted has a better story, script, game play, art direction and pretty much everything else. Lara has the name and the heritage but she will competing directly with two the of best games of this generation.
The first Tomb Raider was as revolutionary as it was evolutionary, and should hold a fond place in the heart of any gamer who played it upon release. With that said, its hard to see Tomb Raider defining or even re-defining a genre again. But if Square-Enix and Crystal Dynamics focus less on paradigms and more on creating a well-structured, cleverly-paced game with tight controls and a story that doesn't insult the player's intelligence...well, they won't need to worry with any of that.
At the very least, it'll be bittersweet fun to see how they screw this up...
I hope this game is good, I like the previous Tomb raider games.
That was their first mistake....the second one was coming ashore.;)
I remember to this day reading the previews for the first tomb raider and putting it on pre order. I was always disappointed by the end of the first game in the series, wonders if anyone else ever had the alien bug as i did.
I personally can't see any fun in being had if they screw this up, never the less it is on my pre order list.
It's because this is an origins story, you see Lara as a much different character that's why she seems like that. And as the game progresses we'll see her develop into the Lara we all know and love. Looking forward to the game and cannot wait to see Crystal Dynamic's take on how Lara became the survivalist we have always known her to be. Cannot believe it's bee 16 years .
No, I don't think you do.
