Carmageddon: Reincarnation announced

Carmageddon: Reincarnation announced

Stainless Games has reacquired the Carmageddon franchise and announced a new title.

Stainless Games, the developer behind the original Carmageddon, has announced a new title in the infamous racer-killer series after reacquiring the franchise.

The new game will be dubbed Carmageddon: Reincarnation and will be a download-only titled with a tentative 2012 release date. It'll be the first game in the series that Stainless has worked on since Carmagedon: Carpocalypse Now.

Stainless Games is currently working on the game independantly, but is looking for a partner to help the team move the project on to 'full production'.

'Originally an ambitious title that tested the hardware limits of its day, we're excited that the game will finally get the showcase it deserves on today's platforms,' said Stainless co-founder Patrick Buckland.

The developer has confirmed that this latest title will continue to showcase the same black humour and gore as previous titles in the series. The original Carmageddon, which saw racers earn time to complete races by running down pedestrians, was the subject of much controversy when it was first released.

'All the laughs, the crazy power-ups, and extreme destruction will return,' said Stainless Games' Neil Barnden in an official statement. 'We will make sure the existing fans get what they want and expect from a Carmageddon game, and a new generation discovers the delights of sliding into a Cunning Stunt.

No platforms are yet announced for the title, but the small print on the press release makes mention of Xbox Live Arcade.

Only a few years late!

Glad to see Stainless are back behind it, TDR was such a flop in comparison with C1 and C2.

Fingers crossed they allow it to be modable, I used to love making cars for this (even if I wasn't very good at it, haha).

Yes! A game that will turn me into an evil person!

Oh good lord yes. Hopefully it keeps the same rules and overall "feel" as Carmageddon 2, Carmageddon TDR 2000 was such a letdown, mainly because the time limit was fixed

Cunning stunt. Wow. This and twisted metal, I dunno... I feel like culture has moved on. Then again I'm looking forward to playing Duke Nukem Forever so maybe not.

Considering they released The Splat Pack (contained the Blood Patches) for the original which turned them back into pedestrians with red blood I can't see why they'd go backwards...

I remember how I had to sorta secretly play the Carmageddon II, because for obvious reasons my parents weren't too keen about it :D And when they were around I had to avoid the zombies and just act like it was any other racing game..

Hopefully it will be normal persons around, horrified of being there.
Has to have the classic characters, hot chicks and seniors, who can't defend themselves.
That gives the sense of more power to the player, i think that is one of the secrets of the first game.
I remember to play and i never finish the races, just riding around destroying the other cars and hiting people.
Hope its going to be like the 1st game.

You mean I might get a chance to spin out into a mass of pedestrians and open the door to the last few? Yes please.

"And in local news, a young man was convicted for killing 5 people with a car then driving it into a kindergarten. Sources close to the police inform us that the young man was inspired by a game called Carmageddon in which you drive a car. Through people. With blood and guts splattering all over the place." <insert redheaded guy's picture here>
