Modern Warfare 3 trailer released

Modern Warfare 3 trailer released

The trailer is a little light on facts, but it's at least got a lot of explosions.

Infinity Ward last night released the first proper trailer for the next instalment in the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare franchise.

The eagerly anticipated sequel to one of the fastest-selling games of all time looks set to see players hopping around the globe to some of the worst-spelt countries in the world - Am3rica, 3ngland, G3rmany and Franc3.

The game certainly looks set to continue the frantic pace of action that made its predecessors so popular, but we couldn’t help being a little miffed at the quality of graphical finery on show as the game engine doesn’t seem to have moved on too far.

Maybe we’ve been spoilt by the recent Battlefield 3 trailers, which show off the mind blowing excellence of the Frostbite 2 engine, but it just didn’t look that impressive to us.

However, we’ll reserve official judgement until we’ve got the game in our grubby little mitts. In the meantime, what are your gut feelings about the trailer? Let us know in the forums.

MW2 is still at 60€ here which I think is insane. I wonder how much this will cost then?
pimlicosound 24th May 2011, 11:50 Quote
It looks very, very grey.
true_gamer 24th May 2011, 11:51 Quote
No doubt it will still be a DX9 console port.....

Surely you mean G3rmany?

It looks like they've decided to go easy on Russia and contraversially destroy a load of other cities :P

I think marketing wise MW3 may have hit on something better than BF3...MW looks like an all out dumb ass action flick, BF looks like a paced game with less omg it's all kicking off moments. We all know the masses prefer all out action....But let's wait and see....
V3ctor 24th May 2011, 12:06 Quote
Nah... I prefer tactics and teamplay (although sometimes teamplay sucks with a bad team)...

BF3 for me!!

Mentai 24th May 2011, 12:17 Quote
If they have dedicated servers I will probably get this instead of BF3. Yeah I know that's kinda blasphemy for a PC gamer, but I simply prefer a faster paced shooter. I'll grab BF3 when I get a new PC next year, so I can enjoy it in all its glory.
bogie170 24th May 2011, 12:21 Quote
Well I'm buying both. I hope BF3 is more like BF2 than BFBC2.

Looking at both trailers, BF3's vehicle action glimpse has me worked up the most!

MW3 needs vehicles in my opinion.

Infinity Ward lite maybe, considering like 40 personnel were fired or left during the whole MW2 debacle.
CoD is just turning into a spectator game. Taking you to locations you recognise and placing generic spawning enemies in your way to stop x happening to y while you look at recognisable landmark z.

BF3 for me s'il vous plait
Kenny_McCormick 24th May 2011, 12:27 Quote
They should upgrade their engine. Looks to old now. I must confess I like the real world scenario, but now BF3 looks more interesting.
liratheal 24th May 2011, 12:35 Quote
I'm not sure, without exploding the video, that they could have put any more explosions in there.

I'm still not sure that wasn't a trailer for "Exploder part Four; Return of the Explosions" or something.
Funky 24th May 2011, 12:54 Quote
I'll get both. As long as i get several hours play out of a game I'm happy.
With a bit of online and off-line gaming.
"Explosions" bring em on....
UK-Blade 24th May 2011, 13:08 Quote
On the whole it looks nice, but after the whole BLOPS mess, don't think I'll be buying any more activision games.......one bitten.......

Another question (which I probably know the answer too....) Why have PC game developers stopped with demos? Very few games have demos now a days.....then again, who'd have bought BLOPS if they've tried a demo....
Odini 24th May 2011, 13:22 Quote
Is it just me or does it look almost exactly the same as MW2 except now you're in cities you might recognised? For example, the magazine passes and the boat scene?
MrJay 24th May 2011, 13:23 Quote
Depends if i can get it for a reasonable price, which i doubt...so ill probably abstain...
i have MW1 (PC) and Ive played through MW2 on my bros Xbox, didn't impress considering the £35+ price tag.

8th November? or 11th August?
If it's November then it's days after BF3's release, which could prove interesting, 2 competing games released in the same week.
Looks very 'run n gun' almost single player type action, just add aliens and it could be crysis.
chocolateraisins 24th May 2011, 14:17 Quote
So.. where was the actual game play footage?
Threefiguremini 24th May 2011, 14:24 Quote
Yep that looks exactly like MW2. Loads of quicktime style events. I think I'll pass.
scott_chegg 24th May 2011, 14:32 Quote
I'll buy and play them both. MW3 for the Hollywood blockbuster action game moments and BF3 for the online war action. I'll finish MW3 and no doubt think "that was a load of fun!"

I'll no doubt be playing BF3 for a long time after that.

Why does everyone keep comparing them? To me they are totally different things. Both enjoyable for different reasons.
SMIFFYDUDE 24th May 2011, 14:34 Quote
On Steam MW1 is still £20, MW2 £30, COD1 from 8 years ago is £15. Why are people putting up with this?

what are your gut feelings about the trailer

I... I... I don't know. I can see either a postage stamp, or the top left quarter of the picture. Should we take it that no, you're not going to fix your video player? Or, perhaps, and much more sensibly, use a third-party one?

In any case, I think we can hazard a guess that it's another press-circle-to-win first-person shooter, which is apparently the only sort of game it's legal to release these days. Even if you're releasing it for PC. And therefore there is no "circle" button. If this stuff was any more generic, it'd stand out just for how generic it is. And then it'd stand out from the crowd. And who'd possibly want that.
deadstoned 24th May 2011, 15:00 Quote
It looks just like MW2 again. Also most PC Games cost £29.99, this'll cost £39.99, I'm not going to pay a premium £10 more for a poor buggy launch and then be expected to pay £10.99 per map pack. F*** you Activision!

Call of Duty is the perfect example for me of a game where I'd like the sp & mp to be split out.
The sp of Modern Warfare 2 was a thoroughly entertaining 5 hours. But 5 hours is a **** length for a sp campaign, especially in a game that cost £30 or more & I didn't like the mp, partly because I hate lag & partly because I don't particularly enjoy playing games of skill and/or tactics with children, morons, noisy people or the mentally retarded & there was nobody else online. Ever.

Got MW1 loved it and played it lots, got annoyed by lack of dedicated servers in MW2 so didn't buy it (or play it). Got distracted by BFBC2 and tons of other games. Now I look at these very expensive games and think I can live without being ripped off to pay Kotick's bonus so haven't touched them and tbh probably never will.

OCJunkie 24th May 2011, 19:31 Quote
Yay, another rushed port rehashing an aging engine. The new CoD per year situation offers nothing new and they overprice their games because they know they can since everyone mindlessly gobbles it up. It's just a big race between BF and CoD now and personally I'd rather wait 10 years for something epic (Half-Life 3?) than have mediocre content delivered regularly...

as for all games i like to wait for it to be actually released and for reviews to start coming in, before i make any judgement.

graphics wise though, it looks perfectly acceptable, i'm not overly worried about cutting edge graphics, its always a bonus for a game to have high graphic standards, but for me there are more important things to worry about.
example, fallout new vegas, loved the game even though the graphics are clearly years behind, i really can't say i ever thought "this game would be better if the graphics were better".

Thank you! They are 2 completely different types of FPS and therefore are uncomparable. Even the head of DICE said he hates how the 2 games are compared as if direct competitors.

One is an arcade shooter, the other one tactical. Both fun for different reasons.
[PUNK] crompers 25th May 2011, 11:05 Quote
to me black ops felt (and still feels) like a fisher price product, if Hasbro made war games, BLOPS would be it. its just so shallow and meaningless, even when you're playing objective based games modes. so i've decided not to buy another CoD game. I'm bored of them and BF can offer me more in the way of something that makes you think.

maybe i've just grown out of it
DriftCarl 25th May 2011, 12:45 Quote
guarantee that all those "cool looking" explosions are scripted and now you have seen them, they wont impress you at all in game. They wont have destructible environments like in BF3, infinity Ward will call "boxes in the corner of the map that can blow up" destructible environments.
BF3 looks so much more fun, bigger maps, better tactics, real destructible environments.

unfortunatly all the console kiddies will buy MW3 anyway and I am sure it will be a huge hit for them. I dont really care about COD anymore anyway, I have had enough of the 2 games that I actually did buy.

I still play BFBC2 very often and I still enjoy the hell out of it. Blowing up buildings properly just never gets old.

Do you expect the entire FPS genre to adopt destructible environments as a standard feature just because one game has it? It's not a simple advancement in technology, it is a huge change in game rules that doesn't suit a twitch-based game like COD IMO.

Dunno really what to think of the trailer, it was too short to really tell anything about the campaign/SP/MP yet. I'll reserve judgement till I actually have the game. It looks like it might be fun if you could actually cause the planes to crash into the buildings but if it was scripted then I dunno...@DragunovHUN I gotta agree with you, COD is more a game where if you don't become the biggest paranoid ******* in the game you'll die really fast. You have to be able to see the tip of a gun or a shirt sleeve as it's coming around the corner or out of the corner of your screen and just be able to automatically aim for the head or have a shotgun. BF is a great tactical game but it's not as "I-must-be-twitchy" as COD.
Phil Rhodes 25th May 2011, 16:49 Quote
Also.

America? OK, fine.

England, France, Germany? I presume they're all actually American player characters.

No FAMAS, no SA80, no G36? No Rafale, no Tornado, no... Tornado?

Boring. I'm not buying it. Numerous reasons but the main one is its console priced yet you won't be able to sell it once I've finished it.
niro 26th May 2011, 10:22 Quote
Another all action movie type trailer, they did the same for MW2 and Black Ops, and those games ended up being quite crap.
Bet it will end up being a glorified expansion pack for MW2
Spreadie 26th May 2011, 12:58 Quote
The trailer looks like nothing new at all, but I enjoyed MW and MW2.

Yes, they are scripted and linear; as have ALL the COD games been, and most other games frankly.

Get over it.

The games are short but very entertaining to play - I'll excuse COD World at War and COD BLOPS from that though, as they were very... well... meh.

I'll buy it, play it and sell it on - provided I don't have to register the bloody thing on Steam, (thanks CODBLOPS).

For those moaning about the price - don't pay full retail for it then! Wait a couple of days and get a tenner off it at Play or something. Seriously, is your life so empty you simply MUST have the game on release day? If yes, then stop frikkin whining and take it on the chin!

FFS you can even pre-order games at a discount these days.

/rant
SexyHyde 26th May 2011, 17:31 Quote
Yeah but they enter the market at an inflated price. So if you go get a discount its still more expensive then most other games at full retail. And why are we paying the extra for? Have they made a whole new engine? Is it groundbreaking? Am I able to sell it on?

Think I'll spend my money on something else.
Saivert 28th May 2011, 13:31 Quote
