Battlefield 3 pre-order pack announced

Battlefield 3 pre-order pack announced

Game and GameStation have revealed the exclusive pre-order benefits for Battlefield 3.

UK retailers Game and GameStation have announced the extra content and benefits that players can expect if they pre-order Electronic Arts' upcoming shooter, Battlefield 3.

The main pre-order incentive is what Electronic Arts is calling the Physical Warfare Pack, which includes a series of new weapons for use in the game.

These include the Type 88 LMG and bipod, which provides extreme firepower with tight accuracy. There's also the SKS sniper rifle flash suppressor, which increases the stealth attributes for Recon units and some armour piercing flechette ammo for the DAO-12 semi-automatic shotgun.

Those who pre-order the game will also get immediate access to the day-one expacion pack, Back to Karkand, which features remakes of old Battlefield 2 maps redone in the Frostbite 2 engine.

The maps within the Back to Karkand pack include Strike at Karkand, Gulf of Oman and Sharqi Peninsula.

Take a look at our latest Battlefield 3 preview to see what we think of the game. There's also a trailer below and you can check out more of those in the Game Trailers section.

Already have BF3 on pre-order at Amazon - I am assuming this applies to those who have already done so and not pre-orders subsequent to this announcement.
Parge 23rd May 2011, 10:25 Quote
This will be the only game for about 5 years that I'll pre-order! On Steam, obviously!

I'd like it to, but it won't.

well you can get the LE or the LE+Warfare Pack for an extra £5 but doesn't say what is included over the LE purchase.

I don't like how something can be called LE when you can purchase a regular edition and then they;re already adding in extras at a price.

I wasn't clear there, i meant on the game / gamestation website it doesn't say what you get for the extra £5.

^^

+ I hope there's other options... i know my friend wants to buy a rather exquisite BF3 Limited Edition.
The_Beast 23rd May 2011, 11:29 Quote
If I pre-order now do I still get those extras?

Do we really want the core BF series to take the place of COD? I doubt those classic BF2 matches would've been anywhere near as good with a bunch of kids screaming over squad comm's calling everyone noobs.

LE includes Back to Karkand map pack

LE+Warfare includes Back to Karkand AND Physical Warfare weapons pack.

Seems like it'll make the game unbalanced from the start, I really hope not though.

Does the back to Karkand pack not include 4 maps, the 4th being Wake Island?

DLC, be all you can be, well as long as you can afford it.

Why am I not surprised.

Me too, I'll also be annoyed if you can only use those guns if you pre-ordered their version. Hopefully everything will be unlock-able once you level up enough.
Threefiguremini 23rd May 2011, 14:42 Quote
Any word on when the pre-order will be up on steam?
borandi 23rd May 2011, 15:01 Quote
Day One expansion pack? Isn't that what we used to call 'the game on release day'? So now it's £40 for the game, £5 for a day-one expansion pack? Welcome to the RyanAir of game sales... EA you morons.
Eggy 23rd May 2011, 15:29 Quote
Every PC version will have this day one expansion pack, it's just the console versions that need some sort of deterrent for second hand sales.
Baz 23rd May 2011, 15:33 Quote
The 'day one DLC' is just EA's project 10 dollar - every copy of the game will have it, but it'll only be registrable to one player account, a la Mass Effect 2's day 1 DLC. If you want to add a second account to play, you'll need to pay up for the DLC again. Sure to annoy dads who share their PCs with their sons everywhere.
vdbswong 23rd May 2011, 15:56 Quote
If they share the PCs then it'd be a simple case of creating a new Soldier under the same account for each person.

Obviously it doesn't work if they want to play together however.

I doubt it - Game as listing the Limited Edition separate to the Physical Warfare pack, with a separate price!

This is going to be the big one. Having been bored to death by MMO's im going back to the fps. Also looking forward to Planetside Next, 1st one was amazing. :D

I was going to buy from Steam, but i'll guess I have to check those places. This sucks... Exclusive DLC on launching day is an abuse from EA...

you really didnt play Pub in a random clan's TS or Vent did you?
Saivert 24th May 2011, 07:00 Quote
lol chill out.. you will be able to buy all this later anyways..

I've heard this before many times "Limited offer only to pre-orders" blah blah.. then later they open it up for everyone anyways. There is no upside to pre-ordering anything unless you do it on steam and can also pre-load the game.

I will buy this game when I feel like it, not being pressured into anything with false incentives.

No way. Day 1 DLC. You've gotta be kidding me.

Remember when gaming as a whole was good?
Bonzo45 24th May 2011, 08:36 Quote
Back to Karkand will NOT be available on day of release, it will be released after this date. It's just like a pre-order.

BF3 in general keeps on setting itself up to disappoint me, it's really unsettling. As a Battlefield fan I must play it, and it will be fun, but with so much potential it's hard not to be afraid of how much they'll mess up.

I think he meant the in-game voice chat that's restricted to squad mates and, iirc, squad leaders to commanders.
