EA wants suggestions for C&C 5

EA has asked for C&C fans to share their ideas for the future of the series in the official forums.

Electronic Arts has asked fans to submit ideas for the next Command and Conquer game, which will be the first game in the series since 2010's Tiberian Twilight, which drew a close to the long-running Tiberian story-arc.

A new Community Developer Area has been set up on the official Command and Conquer forums, where users are encouraged to share their own vision for the future of the series.

'The most discussed and loved ideas will be passed on to the developer team, so be sure to bring your idea onto our community table. Maybe it will be your idea, which changes everything!' said an EA community manager.

No details have yet been revealed about Command and Conquer 5, which was announced earlier this year and is in development at EA's new Victory Games studio.

Check out our review of Command and Conquer 4: Tiberian Twilight for more information on the series, or watch the video below for a quick reminder. There are loads more game trailers in the new video section too, by the way.

Let us know your thoughts in the forums.

bored.com, thats how I feel about CC games, how about a World of Tanks stylee type game, 15v15 in CC's awsome vehicles, now that would be interesting.

+1 for first post, xd

Suggestion: Don't bother.
arcticstoat 18th May 2011, 11:57 Quote
Make a new Dune game with the Westwood IP instead, and try not to make it as boring as the last C&C and Red Alert games.
Phalanx 18th May 2011, 11:59 Quote
Here's a suggestion: "DON'T DO IT!"

Let it die already. Make something, oh I don't know, ORIGINAL!
BRAWL 18th May 2011, 12:03 Quote
Right, here's my 2 pence. DO NOT MAKE ANOTHER ONE. Failing that if you have to, a good storyline about the SCRIN invading and finding the Earth all Tiberium controlled etc... No mobile bases, No pathetic unit limits, Old School Command and Conquer.

Anything else is blasphemy... anyway, CNC4? That game was never released in my eyes, you f*cked up with that and as such the storyline was disregarded as was that heretical game that, god knows The Emperor would condemn you all for.

Either DO NOT MAKE ONE. Or make one true to the original games up to CnC3 and I will consider your company redeemable. Also include the Redeemer "COUNT TO TEN!"

As much as I want a new Dune game, EA as they are now with respect to RTS games would ruin it.

...

As for C&C5... no, just no. I don't ruin the series more than you already have done, EA.

I agree, except ...

... this +1.

The only good Dune games were 1 and 2. The rest have been shadows of the originals.
mighty_pirate 18th May 2011, 12:12 Quote
They killed it with C&C4. The lost interest will hopefully show in poor sales for C&C5 & then they'll bench the IP & pick up something else. Personally I'd like them to ask DICE for something Mirror's Edge 2 shaped again after Battlefield 3 is finished.
Centy-face 18th May 2011, 12:13 Quote
Well this makes sense I mean C&C4 showed us all that EA don't have any ideas left maybe we do have to pick up the slack. I agree with just about everyone here though and my only thought is "just don't make more".
the_kille4 18th May 2011, 12:18 Quote
C&C 4 was a failure in many ways... although i bought the game (limited edition)... after hearing the beta edition from friend who was a tester i thought that EA finally killed it...

i wish for the layout to be reverted back to the original because that definitely did work... although i really want to see another renagade sort of game though...something which DICE can do I hope

One thousand times this. I wish EA would stop putting time and effort into beating tired IPs into the ground and instead expand on some of the fresh new ones they have released in the last few years. Sadly, I don't think we'll ever see a ME2, but the C&C series will keep on going just because of the C&C name.
Parge 18th May 2011, 12:22 Quote
God, C&C has been awful for years. How about the devs play some SupCom and World in Conflict, and take some of the good ideas from that and put them in the C&C world (ideally without cartoon graphics)
Flibblebot 18th May 2011, 12:30 Quote
To echo most people's sentiments: my suggestion to EA is don't. Just don't.

Let it die a comfortable death. Dressing it up, slapping a bit of make-up on and parading it around the streets is just undignified.
yakyb 18th May 2011, 12:33 Quote
If they really have to, just make Red Alert 2 again with higher Resolution

keep the camera angle @roughly 75 degrees not at 30

Smooth and fast gameplay is a must (but not a race to build like in Starcraft)

realistic graphics not bright colours but with the same charm as the pixelated RA2 graphics (but do not let me zoom in right up to the unit)

allow me to build a uber base

do not bring in any rediculous units!!!
yakyb 18th May 2011, 12:35 Quote
actually havig thought about it

Rewrite RA2 but allow for enourmous maps with about 20 enemies on (that work together or against each other)

Focus on skirmishes and not multiplayer (I gave up on multiplayer after 5 mins and i played RA2 skirmishes A LOT
yakyb 18th May 2011, 12:36 Quote
and finally allow for LAN games!!!!!!!
yakyb 18th May 2011, 12:39 Quote
Sorry fourth post

Have a think about making Renegade again in a minecraft type world where we can play hybrid FPS / RTS and build / invade bases
MrGumby 18th May 2011, 12:59 Quote

Agree with whats been said, get some fresh IP, you've gained some momentum recently with some decent releases (and future... I'm looking at you BF3!) so don't go down the Activision route. Surely they must have some creative bods at EA dreaming up the next big thing.

Don't make another C&C. Make something new, you know, innovate rather than rehash.
Hakuren 18th May 2011, 15:51 Quote
C&C5: If you can guarantee that game won't include cut-scenes/movies with talentless idiots then I can consider C&C5 in the future. But frankly stop with C&C and Tiberium Wars. C&C3 was pathetic to the extreme, C&C4 was below dog-poo level (bought from discount bin, I wasn't that daft to buy it when released). Same story with Red Alert. Last good RA was RA2+YR expansion. RA3 was utterly atrocious. To sum up: C&C3,4 + RA3+expansion - played once - and never again.

Pretty much only [relatively] recent C&C which I enjoyed was C&C: Generals. With mods it is (still) great fun.

Make another DUNE game. Please!
Emperor:Battle for Dune was great. But today with W Vista, 7 and 64-bit OS it is tough to run it properly. Very much 'luck factor' is involved. If not Dune then I will settle for Generals 2.
JCBeastie 18th May 2011, 16:27 Quote
Gut reaction is; DON'T.

But tbh if they could capture the feel of C&C (which I seriously doubt than can 'cos nobody at EA has a soul) then I don't think it would hurt to incorporate gameplay more akin to Dawn of War: the squad based mechanics and Starcraft-esque unit macro buttons (upgrades and skills etc) could work very well I think.

I loved Tiberian Dawn with a passion and part of that was it was mad, but still rooted in the modern day to a degree, the sequels have been far too sci-fi. I think Generals worked for the same reason. If you keep a recognisable setting and inject small amounts of fantastical science and technology it works a treat.

This, also improve the AI.

There are a few other games I'd like brought up to data tech wise.
> X-wing (I can't even install Alliance any more on windows 7 64bit.)
> Birth of the federation (the game turns took so long to process by turn 100 it became painful, and combat was not brilliant either)

Why not try re-doing the Dune tie in. The original game was fab on the Amiga and PC back in (about) 1994, so why not look to different themes as opposed to calling it command and Conquer...

You know.... a bit like EA do with the COD franchise. Could be called "C&C - Dune - The battle for Arakis" or summat....

No. Just... no.
FelixTech 18th May 2011, 18:26 Quote
If the guys on the dev team don't have any good ideas then just let it die... There are some widely recognised unit types from C&C, but in terms of gameplay mechanics they are kidding themselves if they think they can beat starcraft 2 in the 'classic' RTS segment - especially when they probably want it out the door in under two years.

Seconded. Mirror's Edge was, in my opinion, one of the most innovative games since Portal. If anything, its art direction was a breath of fresh air.

Mirror's Edge 2 is begging to be an open-world, sandbox game...
Bauul 18th May 2011, 18:33 Quote
Well they've done with the Tiberium story line, so C&C5 will be different anyway.

Generals 2 is a very good idea. My thoughts would be to do something most RTS titles have shied away from for too long: epic base building. I want to be able to turtle damnit! It should take an hour to play through a multiplayer game and come down to one, single, enourmous epic battle at the very end involving 3,000 tanks and an attack dog.

FEAR THE ATTACK DOG!
Pete J 18th May 2011, 18:36 Quote
Uh, EA, don't you realise you've killed the franchise? Best to let a dying dog lie.

+1

No mobile bases or unit limits. Simple "collect money and spend!"

Oh and we need the guy that did the voice of the Overlord Tanks ;)

just remake red-alert 2 on a new engine....thats it, keep all the units, balencing and everything else the same. Just a graphical overhaul.
thehippoz 18th May 2011, 20:54 Quote
generals was made by westwood before ea bought them up.. it was a great game- then ea bought them up before some game breaking patches were released and left the game to die (with the multiplayer bugs unfixed)

that's what I don't like about ea.. their service after the game sale.. least it was horrible, they've gotten better

I still see them as a console gamers wet dream.. madden was about the only thing, and now that I remember playing in a sony playstation tournament way back at a hotel

the guy who won it would always go on 4th down and he was a master at forcing pass interference with the hail marry =E the game was fun but it blew for gauging any kind of skills.. their games are full of buttsecks now too- that should give you a hint at what kind of devs are running ea

bet they do cartwheels into the office and you better not take a nap, wear a tight belt
Evenge 18th May 2011, 21:35 Quote
I will probably be punished because of this opinion but I liked C&C3. C&C4 tried to be something new and fresh and it was all that, but not in a good way.

So my advice: Look back and play older C&C games, make notes, play some more and ask fans what was good about the older games. After that follow what you have learned and IF possible, improve it. But don't try to fix something that isn't broken.
thewelshbrummie 19th May 2011, 00:55 Quote
Good thing Bit-tech archived the old CPC site.

No comments though. As I said at the time, it was a disapoointing move, especially as Dune is probably my favourite sci-fi franchise.

That was 4 years ago. I'm hoping they've changed their mind as I still play Emperor, so long as the constant on-line requirement is dropped and they go back to the old gameplay mechanics - as someone who loves the C&C franchise 4 was abysmal. If anything like it is released again, I won't be buying it.

No, that's an integral part of C&C. It wouldn't be the same without the cheesy cutscenes

At the time "Generals" wasn't too well received, funny people now like it so much.
I actually like the last Red Alert, not so the last C&C4, but C&C3 was okay for me.

Start over, back to the roots. C&C1 with new graphics...and LAN support that works. ;)

back in the day i was a huge fan of c&c. got the first decade pack and spent years on it ( still do on the occasion ) everything after that just sucked big time... overall my fav was red alert 2 ( with yr ) so naturally id love to see another with better graphics and an overhaulled ai.
