Crytek: We didn't confirm Crysis 2 DX11 patch

Crytek has cast doubt on reports that it is working on a DirectX 11 patch for Crysis 2.

Crytek has cast doubt on reports that it is working on a DirectX 11 patch for Crysis 2, saying that it never confirmed having such plans.

Rumours that Crysis 2 would get a DirectX 11 update began after Maximum PC re-reported a German website which claimed a graphics patch was impending.

According to the original report, the new patch would add DirectX 11 features and a new graphics menu for advanced tweaking to the PC version of Crysis 2.

However, Crytek's community manager 'Cry-Tom' has since commented on the official Crysis forum saying that he isn't sure where such claims stemmed from.

'No patch was ever confirmed, I have no idea why this website even posted such information,' said Cry-Tom.

'This thread is locked just the same as the others for trying to spread inaccurate information. When there are any big announcements regarding Crysis 2 they will be posted on MyCrysis, if you read something about a patch for example, but don't see it on MyCrysis.com, then it isn't genuine.'

Check out our Crysis 2 Xbox 360 review for more information on the game, while we go back to finishing our graphics analysis for the PC review.

That's ridiculous! Crysis without DX11 in 2011? they were supposed to be showing some love for PC gaming as it's crysis, not dumbing down for console and ignoring new technology in PC's! Crytek should be ashamed.

Maximum Console Port...Thanks Crytek for the big hypes of this game, and then to be let down by low res textures and lack of DX10/11 support.
So much for pushing the PC forward!

I can't believe this.

I bought Crysis 2 initially under the impression it had DX11 support. This turned out to be untrue but the rumours of a DX11 patch gave me hope.

Crytek, you've sunk so low. I wish I had bought your game in a sale now.

A patch that makes the game WORK would be nice. My nanocatalyst resets to zero every time I quit the game so I can't upgrade my suit enough to get through the later levels. I also have this annoying bug where melee stops working after I restart from a checkpoint, and the only way to get it working again seems to be quitting to desktop.

Crysis a cutting edge, PC pushing game and some thing the next generation of consoles might be able to run.
Crysis 2 some thing that an Xbox can run.

If its not in the box dont expect it latter on, as in this day and age even if you do get it latter on you will have to pay for it again any way.

you should see the oficcial "mycrysis" forums it looks like a real warzone more so than the actual Crysis 2 game ha!

Why do people want DirectX 11?
Zeus-Nolan 29th March 2011, 13:26 Quote
Regardless of if or when the game looks really good, plays better than both crysis and warhead (60fps consistent).
Doctor Hades 29th March 2011, 13:39 Quote
@MattyD - Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh... I think I've encountered the same bugs as you. That's why I've never been able to accumulate the Nanocatalyst I was expecting as I killed dozens of Ceph and when I checked I only had 500. What happened was I'd quit the game twice POST checkpoint but have obviously lost them. I've also had the melee bug a few times too.

Great game but, yes, a little buggy even if the game has never crashed. The A.I. is a little dodgy too at times; I've seen soldiers walking in circles and even repeatedly into walls not to mention aliens that just stand rooted to the spot even though they should be able to see me (I'm unstealthed).

Finally, has anyone noticed how Alcatraz still casts a very obvious shadow when you engage the stealth mode? I mean how can enemies miss a moving shadow?!?!? :O

Better looks, better performance. But mainly, and let's be honest about this, people want it because it's Crysis and it better be cutting edge tech & beyond. That's what people expect from Crytek & that's what Crytek advertised throughout development.

I don't think Crysis 2 NEEDS DX11 to look good and I'm pretty sure it won't make it look as stunning as Crysis 1 was back in the days. But if you have a whole marketing team pushing out information about the breath-taking & boundary-pushing technology/engine you have to deliver. Crytek didn't & possibly won't (in due time).
tristanperry 29th March 2011, 14:46 Quote
Hmm okay. So when Crytek said that they're still focussing on the PC, they actually made a minor mistake since they actually meant to say that they're a console game manufacturer who will create rushed PC ports. Easy mistake to make I guess..

Bah. If Crysis 2 is (very) cheap in a sale in the future I might get it, but for now I see no real incentive to buy it.

I'm pretty sure that's intentional due to how the suit works. It makes it look like you aren't there but it can't stop you blocking the light and making a shadow. It's the same in the first two games.

Seems like false advertising, although nothing will come of it - especially since it doesn't say "DX11 Supported" all over the game's adverts and boxsets.

The Engine supports DX11, I don't believe they ever said the game would.

Wiki did state crysis 2 supported dx11, and the game was in the dx11 Games list.

It's now funny that a couple of days later I check Wiki again, and they have now removed all dx11 discribtion from the game?

They DID confirm it:

http://uk.pc.ign.com/articles/115/1153248p1.html

Regarding DirectX 11 support, which would allow for more advanced graphical effects, Camarillo said, "Crysis 2 will support DirectX 11 but we'll talk more about that in the future. There's an announcement coming soon about that."

You may wish to read the article where it's clearly explained that anything not posted on MyCrysis.com may not be genuine, or at least not official. It's not exactly uncommon for something to be in the works and unofficially be announced by someone without authority on the matter, only to be cancelled/postponed later by those with authority.

I'm sure PR managers are getting quite sick of Twitter by now. Something gets posted on a social networking site and people take it as the word of God.

The multiplayer is so buggy, I'm staying well clear from it until the next 2 or 3 patches have been applied.
One common example: I got the limited edition which should give you day-one boost to lvl 5.
Now each time I log in it gives me a happy message telling me how much privileged I am to get to lvl 5. As soon as I'm able to connect to a chat room / server (10 or 15 min later) it resets my status to lelvel 1!

Ok, so I play for a while and level up to lvl 3, and then the server disconnects me for no reason. At that stage I'm fed up having spent 45 min just for 15 min gameplay, I log out.
When I log back in again guess what happens!! I am back to level 1 again! How fun is that!

Limited Edition's multiplayer has a built-in vicious circle, for those who like that

Isn't there a way to just force it to use DirectX11? Even if it wasn't optimized for that, if the engine can support those features, shouldn't there be some code you can add to the settings file or something that will force your GPU to render the game with DirectX11 features?

it's the gameplay that sucks.. the ai is really bad and the suit modes are consolified- actually whole game is consolified to a point it's almost insulting to anyone who's played the original

Talk about screwing over your original fan base Crytek.
The only reason people waited in anticipation for this game is the mere hope it would be graphically mind blowing.

Don't get me wrong the game looks good. But the minimal graphics interface, and lack of DX11 support for people with cutting edge GPU's, is a sad sign of the company whoring itself out for profit with the console market. It also shows a deep lack of respect for the audience that it originally captivated.

Welcome to mediocrity Crytek

Erm, dude, wiki isn't an official source of information. I could go put back the DX11 information if it'd make you happy.

I feel that Crysis 2 is a big step back from Crysis, I was hoping for my hardware to be pushed, challenged but its not. But meh, its a game, and I am relatively enjoying SP, and I've not seen a better looking game for a while. HL2 did have some better textures though.
