EA: 'PC could be our biggest platform'

Electronic Arts' Frank Gibeau has said he sees the PC as the future of the company and that the platform could conceivably become the biggest platform for EA in the future.

'The user base is gigantic,' Gibeau told Gamasutra. 'PC retail may be a big problem, but PC downloads are awesome.'

Electronic Arts recently announced that free-to-play PC shooter Battlefield: Heroes averages 368,241 new users a month on the PC alone and has over 7 million registered users total.

'If you look at the way people play in Asia, PC is the model,' continued Gibeau. 'I think that free to play model is coming to the West in a big way.'

'The margins are much better and we don't have any rules in terms of first party approvals. From our perspective, it's an extremely healthy platform. It's totally conceivable it will become our biggest platform.'

EA's big PC releases for the future include Star Wars: The Old Republic, an MMO that's being developed by Bioware. The publisher has just released Dragon Age 2 as well, also from Bioware. Check out our Dragon Age 2 review for more information.
