Nominations for BAFTA Game awards revealed

The nominations have been announced for the public-voted BAFTA 2011 Game award.

The shortlist of nominees for The Game Award at this year's BAFTAs has been revealed, with the public invited to vote for their favourite titles.

The Game Award is the only public-voted award to be given at the 2011 game BAFTAs. Last year, 65,000 people voted Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 as their game of the year.

'Our panel of experts have created a fantastic shortlist of the year’s top titles,' said Game's Neil Ashurst, who encouraged gamers to vote via the official site.

I think Red Dead is a worthy alternative surely? I agree that the rest are hardly awe-inspiring though

I'm only partly through ME2 (have assembled my team but not gone through the omega 4 relay). The amount of available game play - all of it top quality is outstanding especially when you consider the amount of voice acting which must have been done for all the possible permeations.

If it goes to any game other than Red Dead or ME2 we can safely say the decline in gaming culture has hit an all time low. Worst bit is, I know Cod or Halo is going to win.

@SpAceman: Exactly! I could come up with at least a dozen titles that would be more worth of recognition. Sadly, the mainstream will only recognise box office sales from brick and morter shops, rather than look at truly innovative, yet also hugely successfuly titles.

I hope COD does not win (even though that is the only game that I have from that list), purely because it is a major rip-off and a shoddy product. By shoddy I mean it was rushed into release with problems and these problems are taking months to sort out (which is a trademark of Treyarch).

But sadly like last year when MW2 won, black ops will probably do the same, and only reason is that it sold a ton more units than any other game and as such will have a load more people (or sheep as others have referred to them) voting for it

Always take awards done via public voting with a lorry full pinch of salt

I have to wonder how many people voting have even played more than one of the games on the list.

I've never played Blops nor ME2. In fact, the only game I've ever played off that list is RDR and a couple hours of Hot Pursuit. I don't know how good ME2 could be, or Blops for that matter, or any of the other nominees. It'd be just as sheepish to vote for the only game I know to be good (RDR) just because the internet says Blops is for filthy casual consoles because my frame of reference is far to small to make an informed decision. I suspect that many of those trash talking Blops have never played it either and are just sheep reading the opinions of their game review and forum shepherds.

from that list is mass effect 2 is the best game by far, but i'm expecting most popular game (call of duty) to win this award.

If I had to pick from that list I would have to say my first would be Mass Effect 2, second would be Heavy Rain and third place would be taken by Limbo. Wish there were a better selection of games to pick from though.
