First DiRT 3 trailer released

First DiRT 3 trailer released

Codemasters has announced DiRT 3, confirming that it will feature cars that go fast.

Codemasters has confirmed it is still working on a sequel to Colin McRae's DiRT 2, titled Colin McRae's DiRT 3, in a new trailer. How do they come up with these names?

While details for the game are still thin on the ground, Codemasters has previously commented that innovation is key to how the publisher wants to push the racing genre forwards.

There’s an overwhelming arcing vision to all of our racing titles, and Grid is incredibly strong, but we’re lucky enough to be in a position where we’ve got racing games in different areas," Codemasters' VP Gavin Cheshire told Edge back in March.

"DiRT was a complete reboot – we threw away what was going on and redid it completely – and then we rebooted Grid because it wasn’t top gun, and then we rebooted DiRT 2. I’m not saying we’re throwing all the codebase away, but we’re throwing the thoughts away and coming out with something fresh and new. Because if you don’t innovate, you’re dead.

Codemasters still hasn't supplied DiRT 3 with a release date or confirmed list of platforms, though it's expected to be a multiplatform title on PS3, Xbox 360 and PC - like previous games in the series.

You can check out the new DiRT 3 trailer below, then let us know your thoughts in the forums.

What? Really? Already? I gave Dirt2 a spin only last week.

I'm more excited about GRID 2 to be honest... loved the career mode in that game and its arcade racing style

Wow, I only just started on Dirt 2 about 2 weeks ago. Snow! I love snow.

Sweet mother of GOD that looks good! I loved DiRT 2, but I hope they sort out the memory leak problems it had. I couldn't play for more than an hour and a half without it crashing out. Was a widespread problem aswell (still is, if you look around for it).

Looks nice, codemasters do good racing games!

Shame they completely ruined operation flashpoint 2. Whoever was in charge of releasing that pile of crap should of been shot.

if you didn't tell me it's Dirt 3, from 1:00 to the end, i'd have thought it's a Ken Block stunt show.

i want GRiD 2 :(

I picked up Dirt 2 in the recent Steam sale and am lovin it but this looks like it could be really good
delsinboy 2nd August 2010, 13:32 Quote
yeah looks good but i also prefer grid. has grid 2 been officially announced yet?

nfs hot pursuit & f1 2010 also look very promising.
frontline 2nd August 2010, 13:46 Quote
Dirt 2 was good, but i too would prefer a GRID 2 next.
Mentai 2nd August 2010, 14:50 Quote
Dirt 2 was really good, and quite an extensive game. I'm really wondering on how they are improving this. And yeah it would make more sense for Grid 2 to come sooner.

More americanisation (ESPN logo) & exploding trucks.

/facepalm

I wonder if it will be even more XTREEM than the last one... though I'm not sure how they'd do that. Maybe include Tony Hawk, riding a skateboard, on top of a rally car. While it's racing. And he's drinking an energy drink. Yeah.
LeMaltor 2nd August 2010, 15:22 Quote
What r u lot smoking, dirt 2 was crap.
Spraduke 2nd August 2010, 15:26 Quote
Whilst I enjoyed Dirt 2 the best bit of the game was the actual rally bits (shock horror!). I found the head to head stuff tiresome after about the 5th time around the same track with the same one liners
hardtailstar 2nd August 2010, 15:28 Quote
tbh i like the look of Dirt 3 especially if they include the gymkhana stuff as i think its awesome or even just release one just for it.
dactone 2nd August 2010, 16:01 Quote
god,i hope they get rid of them annoying menus, from loading up the game to getting a race would take about 10 minutes!

ow and the cheesy driver voices .

Exactly..... it's identical in part, to the Top Gear piece last year featuring Captain Slow and Blockie..... looks cool tohugh. Let's just hope there are more point-to-point (especially tarmac) stages. Far too many circuit stuff last time.

Yeah the proper rally races with co-driver were by far the highlight. I couldn't stand the horrible land rush van races which seemed to take up 1/3 of the game.

Still loved DiRT2 and am looking forward to DiRT3 & GRID2. :D

Looks more like a cutscene from Top Gear than a game trailer! :P

I never played Dirt for more than 30 minutes as I had Grid which, as most people know, is a freaking awesome arcade racer. I'm more fussed with Grid 2 tbh.

Exactly what I was about to say. I remember the exact episode.

Looks like the weather options being used in the F1 game are crossing over... good thing too. If just half of that video makes it I can still see it being a decent game & must buy.

I'd also like to see GRID 2 but I'm guessing it's being held back thanks to Codemasters getting the F1 licence... would love to try the drifting mode in wet weather though!

I do not know if GRID2 has been officially annouced, however i do recall reading in the last couple of weeks a news post somewhere stating codemasters are currently working on Dirt 3, GRID 2 and a new Operation Flashpoint, all while finishing up the new F1 game.

I thought it was pretty good actually, it managed to engage my rather short attention span long enough, with the occaisional blat now and again when I'm deciding what to play next.

I like that they're adding weather effects. Would love to race in the middle of a hurricane.

Absolutely loved dirt2 and I wasn't into rally games until I played this, really looking forward to dirt3 now :)

GRID2 and F1 2010 please... Let Dirt rest a little bit... Or else u will have a stupid racing game like NFS... Don't make a game just to sell it... like the FIFA's that come every year...
DirtyH 4th August 2010, 09:03 Quote
they should call it Ken Block Racing
bestseany 4th August 2010, 10:44 Quote
The trailer looks really good.

And for a change, the car sounds are quite authentic sounding. Love the turbo chatter noise.
SMIFFYDUDE 5th August 2010, 00:34 Quote
Xtreme sports stars and terrible music aside I quite enjoyed Dirt2 but I can no longer play arcade racers like Grid after playing GTR 2 and Race 07 for the past few years.

Come back Geoff Crammond and make a new Grand Prix game.
Hypnosam 5th August 2010, 00:59 Quote
I want to see Grid 2, plus future F1 games rather than dirt 3. It seems to have lost its touch. I want rallying and the occasional rally cross, but not stunts - like the trailer suggests.

I will admit that the explosions look cool.

I don't play it much because of that.

Grid was amazing and Dirt 2 was not that much different. I wouldn't call it a rally game though.
Gunsmith 5th August 2010, 15:09 Quote
GRID was an insult if you were an actual petrol head with online races often stooping into demolition derbies.

things i want D3 to have:

rally
rally
weather effects
long rally stages (really 1:30 a stage is a pisstake 3 to 6 mins pls)
real driver names (who doesnt want to take a shot at taking Loeb down?)
rally
rally
did i mention rally?
NO ****ING TRUCKS!
b5k 10th August 2010, 17:14 Quote
This would be good if it got sponsorship from the WRC and seperated a real RALLY Campaign from their points building "roleplay", drive around a track in a truck for 3 hours idea of a campaign.
uz1_l0v3r 11th August 2010, 13:24 Quote
I'm much more interested in WRC 2010. Finally, an proper rally game for "next gen" machines.
Elton 11th August 2010, 13:41 Quote
More rally please. Even if it's catering to the less hardcore, some more rallying instead of explosions would be nice.

That said can't wait unitl GT5 comes out with their rallying, they were one of the few games to feature Lancia.
tron 11th August 2010, 22:48 Quote
I can't wait to see what new kinds of incredible explosions they introduce into Dirt 3 :)

To be honest, I would be much more excited to see a GRID 2 with all the realistic dynamic weather effects from their F1 game. Include a few fit grid girls. Include corner-cutting penalties. Realistic engine sounds, and add more simulation driving physics.

Or even better,a licensed FIA GT1 World Championship game with those simulation elements from the F1 game.
Zaim 11th August 2010, 22:53 Quote
looks good. wonder what the system requirements are
Xonar 11th August 2010, 23:55 Quote
Can't wait for this.Absolutely loved Dirt 2 and I'm not usually a fan of any type of racing game.

It'll be interesting to see if they push DX11 a bit more and try and get Full DX11 support, Dirt 2 was a stunning game with the few features they did have implemented.
Mik3yB @ CCL 12th August 2010, 12:30 Quote
That looks awesome - Want!

I never bought Dirt2 even though I loved the demo. I know it's like £15 now so I should do...
