Codemasters has announced DiRT 3, confirming that it will feature cars that go fast.
Codemasters has confirmed it is still working on a sequel to
Colin McRae's DiRT 2, titled
Colin McRae's DiRT 3, in a new trailer. How do they come up with these names?
While details for the game are still thin on the ground, Codemasters has previously commented that innovation is key to how the publisher wants to push the racing genre forwards.
“
There’s an overwhelming arcing vision to all of our racing titles, and Grid is incredibly strong, but we’re lucky enough to be in a position where we’ve got racing games in different areas," Codemasters' VP Gavin Cheshire told
Edge back in March.
"
DiRT was a complete reboot – we threw away what was going on and redid it completely – and then we rebooted Grid because it wasn’t top gun, and then we rebooted DiRT 2. I’m not saying we’re throwing all the codebase away, but we’re throwing the thoughts away and coming out with something fresh and new. Because if you don’t innovate, you’re dead.”
Codemasters still hasn't supplied
DiRT 3 with a release date or confirmed list of platforms, though it's expected to be a multiplatform title on PS3, Xbox 360 and PC - like previous games in the series.

DiRT 3 trailer below, then let us know your thoughts in

i want GRiD 2 :(
nfs hot pursuit & f1 2010 also look very promising.
/facepalm
ow and the cheesy driver voices .
Are you stoopid: it's simply 'cos it's the third Dit game...... innit !
"Dit"..... Dit ? Dirt you fool.
Exactly..... it's identical in part, to the Top Gear piece last year featuring Captain Slow and Blockie..... looks cool tohugh. Let's just hope there are more point-to-point (especially tarmac) stages. Far too many circuit stuff last time.
Yeah the proper rally races with co-driver were by far the highlight. I couldn't stand the horrible land rush van races which seemed to take up 1/3 of the game.
Still loved DiRT2 and am looking forward to DiRT3 & GRID2. :D
Exactly what I was about to say. I remember the exact episode.
I'd also like to see GRID 2 but I'm guessing it's being held back thanks to Codemasters getting the F1 licence... would love to try the drifting mode in wet weather though!
Spot on my friend :)
Err.... cheese... I mean cheesecake :|
I thought it was pretty good actually, it managed to engage my rather short attention span long enough, with the occaisional blat now and again when I'm deciding what to play next.
That's what I was thinking :)
I like that they're adding weather effects. Would love to race in the middle of a hurricane.
The trailer was broadcast during the x games in America, they signed a deal for it.
I would prefer Grid 2, a codemasters employee did say on the forums.... it was coming !!
And for a change, the car sounds are quite authentic sounding. Love the turbo chatter noise.
Come back Geoff Crammond and make a new Grand Prix game.
I will admit that the explosions look cool.
I don't play it much because of that.
Grid was amazing and Dirt 2 was not that much different. I wouldn't call it a rally game though.
things i want D3 to have:
rally
rally
weather effects
long rally stages (really 1:30 a stage is a pisstake 3 to 6 mins pls)
real driver names (who doesnt want to take a shot at taking Loeb down?)
rally
rally
did i mention rally?
NO ****ING TRUCKS!
That said can't wait unitl GT5 comes out with their rallying, they were one of the few games to feature Lancia.
To be honest, I would be much more excited to see a GRID 2 with all the realistic dynamic weather effects from their F1 game. Include a few fit grid girls. Include corner-cutting penalties. Realistic engine sounds, and add more simulation driving physics.
Or even better,a licensed FIA GT1 World Championship game with those simulation elements from the F1 game.
It'll be interesting to see if they push DX11 a bit more and try and get Full DX11 support, Dirt 2 was a stunning game with the few features they did have implemented.
I never bought Dirt2 even though I loved the demo. I know it's like £15 now so I should do...
