Portal 2 E3 trailer

Portal 2 E3 trailer

Portal 2 is due to ship in 2011.

Valve has just released a new teaser trailer for its forthcoming game Portal 2 at the Sony press conference at the E3 trade show.

The original Portal was released in October 2007 as part of Valve's Orange Box bundle that also included Half Life 2 Episode 2 and Team Fortress 2.

The crafty puzzler immediately generated a huge fan base thanks to its innovate gameplay and irreverant sense of humour.

Valve seems to put out press releases on an almost monthly basis changing the release date of Portal 2, the latest estimate for which is sometime in 2011.

In the meantime, feast your senses on this brand new teaser trailer which features GLaDOS taunting the player, then let us know your thoughts in the forums.

Watched this last night (gave me a chubby) I can't wait to see what improvements they've done to the source engine. I'll laugh hard and loud in my friend's face when he sees this ".... Source Engine is too old, they need a new one."

HAHAHHAA! Shuddup!

I want to know if Valve are keeping to their word and sticking with DX9 API or if they've moved on completely (DX11/OpenGL?).

The first thing I noticed was focal depth at 10 - 14 seconds into the trailer, I don't seem to recall focal depth being used in any of the other source games.

Also, the sound during first few seconds into the video reminds me of "Slider" from the Album "ISDN" by the Future Sound Of London.

The trailer was most likely made in the Source Film-marker where depth-of-field can be applied.

Bring it on!!!

By the way, was the big Valve reveal at E3 that Gabe doesn't hate the PS3 anymore? I bloody well hope that wasn't it!!

Apparently the Source Film-marker will be released after all the TF2 "Meet the..." videos so we'll be able to create our own 'films'. Which will be freaking brilliant. I love to see a L4D short that actually explains the non-existent storyline.

Wicked trailer, I want this bad, hope it doesn't take too long to come out. I love the humour in portal.

/want!

from the trailer, looks like there will be a more aged look, rather than the clean look of original.

I think we should be wary of a game studio that consistently comes up with **** this fabulous. Can't be human. Perhaps GLaDOS is doing game design these days.

I don't know how I'm going to manage until next year now!

Its all based on their user hardware collection results. If more and more people can run DX10 and 11 then they will move on. They can always develop using both APIs too.

That song is my ring tone. I'm not kidding.

Funny enough (portal jumping to another thread) I first heard the song on Rockband 2; it was offered as free DLC. It was eerie and addicting. Then I played Portal when Steam had it for free last month. I nearly fell out of my seat when I heard it.

That makes sense. I remember reading an interview with a head dev or maybe even Gabe in a old PC Gamer issue where they stated they were more interested in making the Source completely multi-threaded instead of moving over to the newly release DX10 API.

I wouldn't be surprised if they start working on OpenGL more than Direct3D tbh.

The source 2 engine reportedly is built on OpenGL to make porting to Mac/Linux easier in the future.

The goo physics looked amazing in the gameplay vids. So many new gameplay tools make my head hurt though, but in a good way!
