Xbox 360 Slim announcement leaked

Xbox 360 Slim announcement leaked

The Xbox 360 Slim will apparently feature a 250GB hard drive and built-in WiFi.

Images from some Italian adverts have apparently leaked the news that Microsoft is planning an Xbox 360 Slim console for the future, according to Italian website ConsoleTribe.

Microsoft has not yet commented on the images, having been too busy announcing that the Natal controller will be called 'Kinect', but is expected to give an official announcement later this week at E3.

The adverts were apparently shown on a number of Italian websites ahead of schedule and have since been removed, though GI.biz claim the validity of the ads is backed up by other sources.

If the rumour is indeed genuine then Microsoft's Xbox 360 Slim follows on from Sony's own PlayStation 3 Slim, which was unveiled at GamesCom 2009.

No price points or release dates have been leaked for the Xbox 360 Slim, but the adverts do claim that it will come with a 250GB hard drive and built-in WiFi. It'll be smaller or slimmer too, obviously.

Check the advert below, then let us know your thoughts in the forums.

Is it me or does it just look plain weird?
proxess 14th June 2010, 10:37 Quote
But will it play Crysis? And will it play it without RROD?
Mankz 14th June 2010, 10:37 Quote
Perhaps this one will work for more than a week..

Looks very weird..... Whats the bet it wouldn't support old hard drives either so you have to buy a new one?
Bungletron 14th June 2010, 10:57 Quote
Looks very Italian, maybe it will be less noisy too?
Instagib 14th June 2010, 11:03 Quote
RROD just waiting to happen there. Does look nice though.

The Germans rumour there's to be an "Arcade Version incl. Kinect" for 300$ Hmmm

Slim? really? based on those pics and looking at my elite, using the DVD cover as a measure, if anything it looks a little longer, and no thinner than my 360!
Nature 14th June 2010, 11:14 Quote
If it's Italian it'll be nosier and smoke in restaurants. Oh, snap!

Crysis sucks, bit-tech have explained that so who cares?

RROD, i doubt they would re-design the same failure again :) Here's hoping not.

I've worked out what it looks like..... Alienware meet your console cousin.
BlackMage23 14th June 2010, 11:37 Quote
Hope they start using standard hard drives now like the PS3.

Looks like a poorly setup 3ds Max render. :X

It just looks like a redesign of the outside with for the most part, the same size.
Wifi - 'bout time
Perhaps it'll include a die shrink to counter the RRoD
Spraduke 14th June 2010, 12:40 Quote
doesn't look that slim to me?!
Plugs 14th June 2010, 12:41 Quote
I doubt this will be called the "Xbox 360 Slim"
mainly because that sends a nod to Sony and their naming
gavomatic57 14th June 2010, 12:42 Quote
Quite possibly the ugliest thing I've seen for a long time.
NuTech 14th June 2010, 12:59 Quote
It looks like a shitty PC case that Thermaltake would design as part of their 'budget' range.

Why does Microsoft's industrial design suck so hard? The only thing I liked about the original Xbox was that it was function over form (built like a brick, they never broke and were quiet and cool). I love my 360 but it's just plain ugly (especially when compared to the PS3).

Microsoft proved it can do better, much better, just look at the gorgeous Zune HD or Courier renders. So why don't they?

Pro-tip Microsoft - Clean lines and non-glossy metal enclosures.

It'll play Crysis 2 for sure, does that count?

Has anyone noticed that if you slice the slim xbox at the middle diagonal it loos like two inverted wii's? Fake image maybe?
rojo 14th June 2010, 13:48 Quote
It looks like someone popped it into the oven to fix an RRoD and forgot to take the case off first. :)
bob 14th June 2010, 13:49 Quote
It's ugly, and not even slim. Fake?

At least they've finally included wi-fi as standard, it's long overdue.

Is it heckers like.
Wireless is utter gash. Enjoy streaming your 1080p over it.
Sheiken 14th June 2010, 16:01 Quote
Look at the "xbox 360" on the side of it.
No designer would EVER place that on the side like that, all crooked.
I say fake!... But then again, I was wrong about the first leaked pics of the i4G..
steve30x 14th June 2010, 16:12 Quote
Looks like they tried improving Ventillation to me. also like the design. On the site the picture was taken from when you clicked on the picture it brought you to Xbox Italy so I doubt its fake. Looking at the DVD tray door size its not a slim model.

Wireless N can go up to 140MB/s so streaming 1080P films over wireless N isnt a problem.
D-Cyph3r 14th June 2010, 16:19 Quote
Surely a fake. It's uglier and more awkwardly shaped than the original.... and why would MS feel the need to update it now?

I can't believe it's real.
alastor 14th June 2010, 20:05 Quote
It is completely real, and it's shipping to retailers TODAY. Was just on the E3 keynote.

I can't believe they managed to keep this so hush hush, apart from the motherboard shots a couple of months ago there's been nothing.

According to Joystiq the loudest part of the 360 is still the same, i.e. the dvd drive. So no, it's not whisper quiet as everyone is reporting.

The 360 only ever had an external HD-DVD drive, which was probably quite quiet, but only about 10 people bought one. The normal DVD drive was possibly the loudest they could find.

Ooops, did mean the normal dvd drive. :D

About the hard drive. I just found out is is removable. But sits between the PS3 and the old 360. It is hidden inside and can be removed. But its not quite as nice as the old one, and it isn;t as customisable as the PS3 as it doesn;t look liek you can get *any* HDD and whack it in.
steve30x 15th June 2010, 00:22 Quote
I just watched a video of two guys with that Xbox and the HDD is a standard Laptop HDD in a caddy. Watch the video @ http://www.joystiq.com/2010/06/14/xbox-360-slim-unwrapped-and-unboxed/? Carefully look at thye HDD when they take it out. You will see the connections are Identical to a SATA HDD.

Its not one bit noisey. Watch the video. They put a microphone up tho the Xbox and its very quiet with a disk in the DVD tray unlike the old Xbox 360 which was loud when a disk was in the tray even before the disk was being read.
steve30x 15th June 2010, 00:26 Quote
Wrong Video link sorry. This video is the one where they Have the close up of the HDD and they put a mic direct on the Xbox 360 while it is running with a disk in the DVD tray

Hmm well that's nice that joystiq was wrong. Now that these are quiet, might have to pick one up.
FreQ 15th June 2010, 00:59 Quote
Interesting, a slim version of the 360 was the only way I was ever going to buy one (couldn't justify spending money on a console I knew would break). Hopefully this will be cool, quiet and better built.

I like the PS3, but all my friends have 360's. So it's a no brainer with online multiplayer these days.

Its actually barely slimmer than the original. Its taller I believe too.

Considering they revealed it from inside the shell of a normal 360, I don't see that being the case.

I think it's quite nice looking really, and it's quite tempting to try and offload my elite and upgrade to this given that I was after a 250gb hdd for it anyway.
