Warner Bros. announces FEAR 3

Warner Bros. has announced FEAR 3, revealing the official name as 'F3AR'. Which sounds stupid.

Warner Bros. Interactive has revealed via a Spanish games magazine (hosted on NeoGaf) that it is working on a sequel to Monolith's scary slow-mo shooter series, FEAR.

Images from the magazine include pictures a pregnant Alma, the evil lady psychic from the first two games, flanked by two unknown characters - one apparently a reanimated corpse, the other an angry man with a mullet.

FEAR was first released back in 2005 and the name technically has dots in it - F.E.A.R is supposed to be an acronym for First Encounter Assault and Recon. It was a silly idea back then and Warner has apparently embraced the idea for the third game in the series, going with the official title 'F3AR'.

That'd be 'First 3 Assaults and Recon', then? Doesn't matter, we're just going to call it FEAR 3 anyway in an attempt to discourage silly acronyms in computer games. We're not willing to end up with another S.T.A.L.K.E.R any time soon.

There are no details released about the game just yet, but expect to see FEAR 3 feature lots of dark corridors and gorgeous slow motion gun fights, just like the previous games in the series.

^So true! Tbh I didn't like the first one that much either. It had some cool gizmos like slowmo and pretty particle effects, but the game as a whole was pretty mediocre.

I guess the guy with a shot in the forehead is Paxton Fettel? Because we had to kill him in FEAR 1. And again he has his mother's eyes.

Agreed. To be honest, if Monolith wanted expand on an existing series, then No One Lives Forever could use a little love. It's a shame they only made two games before switching to FEAR, with its endless identical rooms and daytime TV 'horror'.

I think the problem with this franchise were all the bloody terrible expansion packs. By the time 2 came along everyone had pretty much gone off the game.

Great first game, just wasn't followed up very well.

Crysis and Doom 3 are currently installed lol. I've totally rinsed all my others. I need to get a copy of Halo 2 I think, now that I'm on a DX 10 capable OS. There was no way I was installing Vista just to play it, so I've held off.

I was a fan of FEAR and was excited about the second, until I played the Demo and that was as far as I got. From what I heard it really got no better with the full game. However, there are plenty of previous games that have had a failed sequel only to come back stronger and I believe the storyline of FEAR has the potential to reinvent itself once again. If they move away from over the top silly monsters and ghosts and get back to the dark atmosphere of games like the original versions of FEAR, Silent Hill and Resident Evil (I know that SH and RE were not FPS) with the graphic detail available now with DX11... I think once again I will look forward to this game.

I actually thought the second game was better than the first, slightly more variety, if still a bit lacking in places

I played the first FEAR in the dark surrounded by 4 speakers .. raised the hair on the back of my neck quite a few times ... hooked me on the series but I'm thinking I agree that the first was the best, and while FEAR2 had nice graphics, it left me wondering what the hell happened to the much vaunted enemy A I ??!!
FEAR3? ... I'll get it, and hope that SchizoFrog is correct

You really have to be a special kind of moron to think of a game title like this...
On the other hand there's endless supply of morons on this world so no wonder there's games like driv3r or f3ar.

I loved the first game, hated the expansions, but i loved the second game though.

I loved all of the Fear games :) The second went down a different direction and you just had to accept that. But once you accepted it, it was a great game imho. Shame about the lame title of the third :(

They actually made 3 games. The third one not from Cate Archer's perspective, though. It's called Contract J.A.C.K. (yup, they've got a punctuation fetish).

Nope, they never made a third, truly awful, game in the NOLF series. Also, there was only one Matrix film and they only ever made one Deus Ex game.
