GameCrush's online playdate service is only available on Xbox 360 at the moment, but will expand soon.
Today sees the unveiling and launch of a new online dating service that's aimed specifically at hardcore gamers, called GameCrush. The service aims to connect paying customers with game-playing ladies and while GameCrush only supports Xbox 360 at the moment, it hopes to expand to Wii, PlayStation 3 and World of Warcraft
in the future.
How it works is by dividing the GameCrush community into two categories - boys are Players, girls are PlayDates. The players buy credits which can be spent on time playing with the girls, while the ladies are paid to play with the boys. Outside the games Players can chat to available PlayDates for free and spend time browsing profiles.
There are currently supposed to be around 1,200 PlayDate profiles available on the site, but we haven't been able to confirm that because the site has been overloaded with traffic.
The actual dating is divided up into six-to-ten minute slots, according to IGN
, with a few casual games on the GameCrush site also supporting videochat. Supported Xbox 360 games include Modern Warfare 2
, Gears of War 2
, Halo 3
and GTA IV
Dates cost 400 GameCrush credits - which can only be bought in batches of 500, predictably - and PlayDates keep 60 percent of the money from each date. 500 credits cost $8.25 USD and GameCrush has figured out the pricing based on what it claims is the equivalent cost of buying a girl a drink.
The 1,200 girls currently listed on the site were recruited from a Craigslist ad that asked for girls who wanted to be paid to play games.
