God of War creator reckons Sony should sue Microsoft over similarities between some of their games.
God of War creator David Jaffe has suggested that Sony should consider suing Microsoft over similarities between upcoming car combat game
Scrap Metal, which will hit XBLA next week.
According to Jaffe the concept and title of the game are so similar to his own PSN title
Twisted Metal that it merits a "
strongly worded letter" at the very least.
"
I mean, first Microsoft puts out a car combat game and calls it SCRAP METAL? Hey, looks like a great game! Right up my alley! Day one purchase for me," Jaffe wrote on
his blog.
"
But come on guys, isn't that just a little too close to Sony's own car combat game TWISTED METAL?"
Jaffe, who stresses that he has no control over either franchise, also reckons that Sony should take a long hard look at upcoming film War of the Gods, which bears many resemblances to
God of War - including the idea of mortals warring with Greek gods.
"
And look: Sony doesn't -and should not- own the concept of the Greek Myths. Nor should they own the idea of mortal fighting ancient Gods, Greek or any other kind. That's all public domain stuff. But the title? Sony DOES own that," Jaffe said.
Jaffe later updated his blog with some more foul language and the promise that his comments had been made lightheartedly. "
Sue me," he said.

Look up who David jaffe is please.
I know who he is and what games he has been behind, but ever time the idiot opens his mouth crap comes out! Now he is better known for his out spoken comments that his games
come on idiots, think before you speak
Yes they own twisted metal title, they DO NOT own scrap metal title.
What is the world coming to? If the title is the same, then yes sue them but if the title happens to have a word in it that another game has but has other words too, then surely they cant sue because of that? If they can, then this copyright system is pants and within a few years every possible name for everything will be copyrighted and there will not be any creativity left.
Greece should sue Sony for using a title they've had for centuries.
God of War is actually a generic title, not specific. And being based on Greek myth, you can't tradmark anything within the game aside from the final game as a whole.
Why is he even talking about crap he has nothing to do with.
What a total fool. He makes a couple of babyish console games with cheesy visuals and all of a sudden he is the KING OF GAME DESIGN AND ORIGINALITY!
Look at the top twenty games on metacritic, how many of those games are good enough to be up there? Looking at the differences from user score to critic score on a lot of those games makes me ask how much are publishers paying per score.
Lets take a look at the second best PC game of all time. (according to metacritic)

Also Sony should sue to stop a twisted metal clone from being released, it sucked back then and will suck still today.
That's why I prefer PC gaming. Its where newer better games come to life first, in other words cutting edge.
Lol first apple trying to patent hand gestures now this crap. Well I've got one for you................................

The God of War and War of the Gods situation is a little dicey too. It's the same name turned around, with "the" added in and has a very similar plot. I call bull**** on that. Could have been Battle of the Gods, War of Immortals, War of Olympia, or any badass sounding Greek name you can think of. Anything that doesn't resemble God of War so closely, again makes it seem like cheap marketing through name recognition.
Whats next? Tiny Huge Planet....
With that said, this is getting a bit petty no?
Exactly!! Devil May Cry (2001), God of War (2005) VERY well put!
Oh yeah don't forget Road Kill By Midway It was Average most of my Friend hated it Also what About Death Rally in 1996 ? Iv Remember played that game like if it was Yesterday on DOS it was very good iv liked duke nukem inside it :
and the thing about Scrap Metal / Twisted metal : Iv knew many game that Wear Metal inside : Full auto ect.
but let not all forget the pioneer of the style : Rock N roll Racing by Blizzard : IT bring just so much good memory on my Sega Genesis & Friend Snes & GBA : you could Literally Destroy ur opponent to win the race

It has been unofficially announced that Jaffe and his new company, Eat Sleep Play, will be developing a new title in the Twisted Metal franchise[2], for the PlayStation 3
But Id hope of a Twisted Metal For Ps3 By next Year with Over 12 people Crashing in each other on a huge circuit where there lot of Demolition : and Effect where could hint some building get destroyed or at least some very awesome graphic : But I guess none of what i'd like would appear in a rated Teen Game -.-
also I hope he is aware that the movie is actually called Dawn of war but got renamed to war of the god somehow for the Trailler a movie who may happen to release next year :
No, I didn't. Copying is copying. He copied Devil May Cry to the letter almost! So now he's crying (pun intended) about a name AND play mechanics?!! GoW was not original creativity, he took a "similar" look and play mechanic and used it for his game. He is a hypocrite.
Scrap Metal is EXACTLY the same as Twisted Metal. GOW is the same genre as DMC but completely different.
Devil May Cry = killing demon's because they killed Dante's mom.
God of War = Killing Ares because he made Kratos kill his family.
There are two common themes here: Hack and Slash genre, and revenge. Hack and slash, as a genre, can't be strictly called copying. By that logic every game with a crosshair and guns is copying Doom (maybe not the first, but you get the idea) and every RPG is just copying old game books from the 70's and 80s. Soundgarden is just copying Boston because they have guitars and drums and play rock music. Being part of the same genre inherently leads to similarities. On the subject of revenge, you can't possibly say that Devil May Cry is the creator of, and holds the rights to, the very conecpt of revenge. It simply follows no logic.
Unlike Twisted Metal and Scrap Metal, though, there is almost nothing in common between their names. They're both three words long, they both have the letter "A" in them, they both have nouns in them... Hmm, nothing important here. Story? Other than revenge, almost nothing in common. The settings are completely different with radically different characters, unlike the two "Metal" games which are both set in staged car battles and the characters (cars) are both combat-ready road vehicles.
