Left 4 Dead 2 add-on arrives in March

Left 4 Dead 2 add-on arrives in March

Valve has revealed that both Left 4 Dead 2 and the original Left 4 Dead will get new content in the coming months.

Valve has revealed that the upcoming expansion for Left 4 Dead 2, titled The Passing, will be released in March this year and that the original Left 4 Dead will get an expansion about a month after that.

The information was let slip by Valve's Chet Faliszek at Microsoft's X10 event in San Francisco, who told Kotaku that two updates were on the way - one for each game.

Interestingly, both add-ons will tell a single story too. The unnamed Left 4 Dead 1 expansion will focus on the original cast as they battle through a new area. The Passing will then have the Left 4 Dead 2 characters meeting up with Louis, Zoe, Bill and Francis and working together to escape a zombie horde.

The Passing won't feature eight-player co-op though, so don't get too excited. Instead, players will be cast as the L4D2 characters and the original crew will be AI controlled.

A new uncommon infected will be introduced in The Passing too - The Fallen Survivor, who sometimes drops equipment when slayed.

On the downside though, The Passing is unlikely to be a free expansion, though Valve has only said that it will announce pricing closer to the actual launch.

So long as it's under £5 or $10 i'm in!

I don't mind paying for content so long as it's worth the money. I'm sure they wouldn't charge for some 2 level expansion on the PC at least. I'm expecting some thing big if they are going to charge.

Really?
L4D2 hasn't seemingly lasted at all. I was still playing L4D up until L4D2 came out. Now I play neither. A new storyline may get me interested for a few days, but paying for it? I'm afraid I am out.

To be fair they are almost the same game, so obviously the sequel will run dry a little quicker.
Although i do prefer l4d2 by far.

Don't worry, we'll make more

In the first two months of Left 4 Dead 2's release, 28,981,249,043 zombies have been shot, bludgeoned, chainsawed and killed — or, for our younger readers, taken to a farm where they can frolic and shuffle around forever.

You read that correctly: 28 BILLION. To put that number in perspective:
* The entire population of the planet has been zombified and killed 4.26 times.
* With the average height of a zombie being 6 feet, if you stacked them end to end they would circle the globe 1,322 times.
* If you placed 28,981,249,043 rulers end to end, they would reach 28,981,249,043 feet in the sky.

In short: That is a bucketload of dead zombies. Nice job, everyone.

Bought L4D2 and I didn't even played it in single player... I tried, but it seemed to me the same experience as L4D1... So I just spent 40€ for nothing at all... :/ Hope this DLC will revive my will to play L4D

L4D1 > L4D2 tbh

L4D1 was fun, loved the characters and the feel of the game.
L4D2 was nowhere near as fun, got a bit of joy from trying the new infected (spitter and jockey rock, charger not so much)

Valve are going to charge? i've put my cynical hat on. They will charge for the xbox 360 cos they have to, they've always said they would never charge for updates to their pc games... unless you've got a quote?
Krikkit 12th February 2010, 14:51 Quote
There's no mention of what platform in the article, so I would assume that it's 360 charged, PC free. I'm prepared to be disappointed.

Only for the characters IMHO

The actual game is much better in L4D2, if only they could port the characters over (maps as well would be nice) It'd be perfect :D

@cyrilthefish This is what you're looking for, you get a choice between the original campaigns and an updated version that includes new weapons/zombies/etc. and there's addons for the originals survivors and zombies should you wish.

Dont agree.
After playing L4D2, uninstalled L4D.

Gotta agree with cyril, L4D2 has some noticeable improvements to the AI and gameplay (for one thing they've made it much more challenging with realism) but L4D1 characters were better IMO.

@phuzz +rep for the link there mate - will definitely give that a try! If they could get the L4D1 characters to banter back and forth like the L4D2 characters as well that would be perfect.

OT,

^^^ this makes me think that one or more of the old L4D1 characters are gonna be killed in this expansion. That could be interesting. However, if they plan on charging for the expansion (on PC) then I guess I won't find out.

Autospawning

We've also been experimenting with a solution for auto-spawning in Versus finales. Even though it's pretty obvious from the L4D forums that EVERYONE LOVES auto-spawning in finales, we figured, what the hell-we'd just go ahead and remove auto-spawning anyway. But before we make any change to Versus we always need to see how the game is currently being played.

:D

+ rep for link. ;)

I did actually look for something like it not long ago, but could only find references to very incomplete versions.

This version isn't perfect (characters ported over but none of the voices) but playing about with it just now, the maps seem to work just fine :)
(with some nice additions, ie no mercy now has some of the riot cops and hazard-suit uncommon infected, as well as some of the hard rain weather effects :D )

I got l4d1 cheap in a sale so an expansion would be great, played the demo of l4d2 but didn't think much of it.

l10d2 rocks only on 20 player vs servers, as the amount of rape is directly proportional to the number of players on the server.

Increase the number, increases the hecticness of the play.

OMG, just tried one (10vs10 vs mode), it's utterly bonkers :D

first time i've ventured into an online server on my own too. sadly, they kept booting the lowest scoring players (so i lasted about 6mins lol) but was a lot of fun, and surprisingly lag free :)

I'm actually enjoying both games. and with more stuff coming to BOTH games, I can only say thats so much for the naysayers divided community claim. Because there is just no way you can play both games, right? ;)

+1

L4D2 killed L4D1 for me.
