THQ has announced that it is hard at work on an MMO set in the Warhammer 40K universe.
THQ has announced today that it is hard at work on a new MMO set in the Warhammer 40K universe and which it is set to unveil for the for the first time at E3.
According to THQ boss Brian Farrell, the Warhammer 40K MMO is one that the company hopes will run for many years and which represents the "
highest ranking revenue opportunity" that THQ has.
The comments came in an an investor call (via
Eurogamer), where Farrell described the project as "
a very competitive MMO" and said that it would be unveiled to gamers for the first time at E3.
Beyond that very little is known about the game other than the fact that it will be developed by Vigil Games and that the combat will work on a much larger scale than in other Warhammer MMO, Mythic's
Warhammer Online.
The speculation in the office at the moment is that that will mean squad-based combat, with players controlling multiple character to help portray the true scope of the 40K universe.

No!
:(
It does sound interesting, WAR was bitterly dissapointing and STO seemed pretty poor too, the other MMO's I was looking at were stargate online(now been canned) and star wars the old repblic, which still seems to be the best placed MMO to challenge WoWs dominance of the MMO scene.
I will follow the 40kMMO while it is in development, but I still believe that the star wars one will have the biggest impact, as starwars seems more "cooler" to play than warhammer.
40K MMO is something I have been looking forward to for a long time. I hope they do it justice.

Of course they will charge a monthly fee + regular expansion you will be forced to buy, why else do you think they would call it the biggest revenue opportunity if they would not plan to follow the classic money making strategy of most mmos.
i cant wait for black crusades, crusades and etc.. to be launched. I hope it is as large a universe as eve is right now, and that they get ccp in to help with fleet stuff.
An MMO based on DoW2 kind of gameplay etc would be ****ing excellent. I might even have to break my rule and get it (an MMO) if it turns out good.
ill look forward to it.
tho most interesting one ive seen so far is http://www.apb.com/
Really? Say that to the few hundred of us who worked for them, and lost our jobs due to the games abject failure.
in my honest and completely personal opinion: in the eyes of the MMO world, WAR is a fail. just like Age of Conan is a fail. just like Aeon is a fail. just like even Global Agenda that BT just reviewed, is a fail.
LOTRO is decent. Guild Wars is decent. in fact, any game that can sustain the hype (content updates, expansions, etc) after 1 year, thats a sign of decency.
WoW is success - although i personally hate the game.
SWG before the upheavel, was a success.
Ultima Online was a success.
WAR was a failure tbh, as much as i wanted to like it, server lag was just too much.
now imagine 12vs12 PvP with a healthy mixture of all ranks.... and all of their bots....
i hope this game will be multi-core optimized lol
Seriously, hell yes. I want to be an Ork!!! Glad THQ is making this, they have good experience with wh40k so far.
