Modern Warfare 2 PC mod tools hinted at

Modern Warfare 2 mod tools for the PC version of the game have been hinted at by Infinity Ward.

Infinity Ward has surprised fans and fanatics by hinting at the possibility of modding tools for the PC version of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.

The announcement apparently comes in spite of Activision's decision to remove dedicated server support from Modern Warfare 2 and instead run the game on a system of listen servers.

The news was hinted at by Infinity Ward's community liaison Robert Bowling on his official twitter feed, which is apparently his usual method of contacting fans according to Eurogamer.

"There may be some mod tool news coming in the future," tweeted Bowling, who promised to provide more details later on if he could.

Bowling later followed up with a tweet about a progress report he is filing on Modern Warfare 2 and how it is being received by PC gamers - so if you've got something to say then make sure you tell it to him!

Does "mod tools" require Dedi servers?, or would it be able to use IW**net?

Either way, im enjoying this game

by mod tools they will probly mean advanced settings such as picking your own map and length of match etc LOL

yeah but if they let you use your own things like maps i bet people will find a way to use there own home servers

Someone did it already, about a week after it was released they copied and pasted the code from MW1 and put it in MW2, made some witchcraft happen and got a dedi server out of it.

I really hope they release a patch to allow dedi servers, and add PROPER mod tools :p

Here's hoping indeed. still annoyed that i have to wait to play with my buddies when i join IWnet cos they are in a game. On a Dedi you could reserve spaces. . . . hey... thats a mod idea.! Reserve spaces for a party . .

I think it's more likely to be options for competitive play (clans). Dedicated servers is not likely to ever happen. Why should they it doesn't do anything to their sales apparently.

My community was planning on having an MW2 dedi so I'm in agreement with Cheesey and Taros.

I am wondering what happens in 6 months or a year when IW doesn't want to spend the money on having servers up and the game is effectively single-player. Oh wait, the lemmings will be playing another game.
MW2 is everything that is wrong with corporate decision making for PC games, what is even sadder is how many have embraced this relationship of exploitation.

I would like to play in a community rather than mostly randoms. I hate having to mute idiots before the game starts in every other game.

Sure I can make a party and play with friends, but then we just kick the ass of the opponenets because we are all grouped. We need some serious clan play
