Torchlight editor released for free

TorchED is a developer-level toolset for Torchlight that will let modders make their own game content.

Runic Games, a team formed of ex-Blizzard developers who worked on the Diablo series and who recently put out the rather similar Torchlight, have now released the official modding tools for the game.

A developer-level toolset, TorchED will allow fans to create anything from custom skins and interface tweaks to new game content and total conversions, according to Runic.

TorchED is a custom tool developed by Runic for editing the open-source OGRE engine which the game is based around - and which already has a very large and active community.

TorchED is now available to download as a free download that's entirely separate from the game. You can download it from FileFront and, if you're serious about modding the game, you'll want to check out Runic's tips on how to build good content too.

Released earlier this month, Torchlight was universally well received and while the lack of co-op is definitely a pain, it's balanced out by the upcoming MMO and swath of mods.
