Alpha Protocol delayed until Summer 2010?

Rumours and retailers are indicating that Sega's modern day spy RPG may have been delayed 'til 2010.

Unfortunately, it looks like we may have jinxed the release of Sega's upcoming espionage RPG, Alpha Protocol. Just yesterday we published a glowing preview of the game and compared it to the seminal Deus Ex - and today rumours are flying that the game is delayed.

Originally supposed to launch in Q4 2009, it now looks like Alpha Protocol may have been delayed until next summer according to some retailers.

As spotted by Eurogamer, both GameStop and Amazon have changed their expected release dates for the game - listing the game as now set for a June 2010 release in the US. Most UK retailers meanwhile have either the original 30th October date listed, or no date available.

Sega has apparently declined to comment on the delay, according to Eurogamer.

For those of you who can't be bothered to read our preview of Alpha Protocol, suffice it to say that it's a modern-day spy action-RPG about a betrayed CIA operative who goes hunting for some missing warheads and comes up against a bunch of secret societies and the like. We're quietly excited about how the game might turn out.

If the rumours about the delay prove correct then it'll be the second major delay for the game, which was once listed for a Q1 2009 release. Alpha Protocol is still listed as a PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 title.

Ouch. Glad I didn't pre-order on Steam - feel sorry for the people that did!

Oh well. Even longer to hold out against the inevitable disappointment.

Sad stuff. Apparently the reason it was delayed (as stated in a leaked Sega document) was because it "wasn't RPG enough". After reading bit-tech's preview, the thought of some marketing dolt playing the game for half an hour and concluding that it "wasn't RPG enough" just makes me want to vomit - no doubt someone at Obsidian is tearing his hair out over that news.

I can't imagine Sega could actually be that stupid. Where did you hear those rumors? If that's true I might just have to vomit myself.
