New TF2 mode coming in next hat update

New TF2 mode coming in next hat update

Valve will be adding a new King of the Hill game mode to Team Fortress 2 when the next update for the game lands.

Valve has confirmed that subtle references to 'hill defence tactics' in a Team Fortress 2 blog post written by the Soldier yesterday is an indication that a new King of the Hill gameplay mode will be coming in the next TF2 update.

Nor will King of the Hill be the only addition either - there's also going to be 18 new hats added into the game for players to collect and adorn themselves with and at least one new arena map, called Offblast. The new hats will include a Viking helmet for the Soldier, an ushanka for the Heavy and a fireman's helmet for the Pyro.

The King of the Hill mode itself is fairly standard - two teams have to battle for control of a single location and whoever is the first to hold it for a total of 18 minutes wins the match and can proclaim themselves King of the Hill.

Valve hasn't yet responded to the idea that the Soldier will also be getting a class update at the same time, though it would seem to make sense given the fact that the new mode was introduced and teased by the Soldier. That, or it could be another secret Spy update - you never can tell with those crazy Valve guys!

For those of you who haven't played Team Fortress 2 in a while we recommend you get reacquainted with the Soldier just in case. You can meet him here.

What do you think of the continued TF2 updates in the forums.

I won't bother re-installing it to try it out. I really, strongly dislike this game. I only have it installed on my LAN pc because thats the only thing going on.

I'm tempted to give this game another go at some point since it sounds like it's changed a lot since I first played it.

I can't wait for this update, valve really do have a DLC for TF2 and its made the game a real hit! Shame Left for Fred isn't the same.

Way to go TF2 team!

Tempted to give this game another go but is the connecting to server bit still taking a couple of minutes because if so they can piss right off.

And I'm tempted not to because it's changed too much and I've got so much to catch up on.

L4D fans here, can we ask you, Valve, to reassign your TF2 team to that project known as L4D. That team hasn't given us all that much and we would really like some new toys to play around with.

I've also been tempted to give it another go, played it briefly on the 360 but didn't really get that into it.
Jamie, if you do give it ago give me a shout, I might join in.

I was very into TF2, but lately my attention to it was pretty low (I had other games *cough* Demigod *cough* to play), but if they manage to somehow add the soldier unlocks to this patch (a long shot but hey.. they did once before) I'm 100% sure I'd go and play right that instant.

The 360 version was never really representative of the best TF2 had to offer. Admittedly its not for everyone though.

I stopped playing shortly after the Sniper/Spy update.

Eighteen minutes? Everywhere else I've read it says three. Or is it a best of eleven and nobody else has picked up on that?

I was like that too, then I got bored enough to play it and I'm addicted again. Since they changed the unlocks so that you find them randomly it means that you can just jump in and have fun, mostly on new maps, then change up your playing style every so often with the new items. Eliminating the achievement grind made the game much more accessible.

I started playing TF2 again a couple of weeks back. Thought it was so so at launch but it's brilliant now with all the updates ;)

I just got TF2 a couple weeks back and it really wasn't all that hard to get up to speed with all the different mechanics and items, I'm sure if you've played the game before you'd have an even easier time than I did.

Following TF2 post-release continued support/update/evolution has been one of the best gaming related experiences of these past years, CardJoe.
Do try the game again. ;)

Disguised Spies no longer trigger On-Hit effects (like the Blutsauger's heal)

Cloaked Spies standing in valid backstab positions no longer raise their knife

# The Force of Nature

* The enemy knockback now only works in close range and behaves more like the Pyro's air blast
* Enemies cannot be juggled by the FaN's effect
* The self-knockback has also changed to respect the firer's view angle. Looking up while shooting will no longer propel the enemy upwards
* Knockback is now scaled by damage done

# The Sandman

* Ubercharged players can no longer be stunned
* Heavies spinning their mini-guns will continue to spin when stunned (whether the left or right mouse button is pressed)

FFS these are retarded changes! (And I'm still working on the stun Ubered people achievement!) I bet a lot of the quoted changed get reverted in a day or two.
