50 Cent to star in Modern Warfare 2

50 Cent to star in Modern Warfare 2

50 Cent will be providing voiceover work for squads in the multiplayer portion of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.

50 Cent is getting more and more into games it seems, following up Blood on the Sand with some voiceover work for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 in what Activision is calling a 'casual cameo'.

Pictures of 50 Cent visiting Infinity Ward appeared on his blog (which we only read because we visited via Eurogamer) 'This is 50'. Infinity Ward spokesperson Robert Bowling later confirmed that 50 Cent will be featured in the game.

Specifically, 50 will be providing the voices of some squad members in the multiplayer portion of the game, which means you can get used to him saying things like "reloading", "air strike" and we might even be lucky enough to hear our favourite line from 50 Cent: Blood on the Sand - "f***ing grenade!".

Bowling also confirmed that 50 Cent is by no means the only celebrity who has been signed to feature in the game and that more and more 'casual cameos' will be unveiled in the lead-up to release.

Infinity Ward was quick to point out that members of Good Charlotte are not on the cameo list though, despite being shown in pictures on the This is 50 blog. Apparently 50 Cent is just really good friends with Benji and Joel from Good Charlotte.

What do you think of celebrity voiceovers in games? Let us know your thoughts in the forums and don't forget to check out our review of 50 Cent: Blood on the Sand for more information about 50 Cent's gaming cred.

Well, as long as the voices he does won't be blatantly obvious... i guess i'm fine with this.

f***ing grenade

meh - 50 cent in a game alone is enough to make me not buy it. I personally don't think celebs repeating such mundane things as 'reloading', 'enemy!' and stuff like that adds to the experience.

Now if he said something like ' Yo G, pop a cap in dat mudderf**ker' or something like 'B*tch gatta get paid' then I would reconsider.

maybe if the game didn't have voice over from people like this then it would be cheaper in the uk?

f***king grenade indeed

Agreed. This is an unnecessary expense, and personally doesn't add anything for me.

Talk about sell outs, COD is so much overrated crap, this does not help, I mean does 50 cent really appeal to gamers? What a load of crap. too commercialized, i do not want to see 50 cent anywhere any games I play.

Oh no, another game beginning its journey down the Yo G, muttah f*cker, Pimp my tank, ghetto route. At least this is only a voice over at the moment , but its still a stupid expence to make, especially as the franchise is one of the healthiest around, and doesnt really need celeb endorcement.
Stuey 10th August 2009, 13:11 Quote
Not too thrilled over this. BUT, I do like recognizable cameos in video games. The voice actor that plays Bender in Futurama had a short part in the Chronicles of Riddick Butcher Bay, and that was pretty amusing.

Yay for certain cameos, Yuck for 50.

They could have dragged any black guy off the streets and he'd do just as good a job.

Next they'll have soldier bitches offering sucky sucky.

Unnecessary really.

I know it's fun to hate, but come on guys. this is hilarious! No one takes Call of Duty seriously anyway. I think it'd be a laugh to have him blown up by a grenade as your running along in multiplayer.
I wonder how whether these comments would be different if you weren't getting an increased price, somehow I doubt a cameo has anything to do with that btw.

Hardly a cameo as John DiMaggio is a pro voice actor! he's Marcus Fenix in Gears of War.

Oh, and Wikipedia says he's been in these games:

Can't you just visualize the marketing meeting to make this decision?

"We need something to really GRAP our hip, younger players."

LIke what?

"How about a badass rap dude. LIke that guy who did that other game recently. What's his name, Two Bits?"

Fifty Cent?

"Yeah! Get him in the game NOW!"

Butcher Bay was the first non-Futurama instance where I heard his voice acting. And it was a cameo as he only had two or so phrases in the game. He played an unnamed guard that is overheard shouting at a prisoner.
capnPedro 10th August 2009, 16:18 Quote
It's semantics, but a cameo is "a bit part played by a famous actor who would ordinarily not take such a small part". DiMaggio has played many small/unnamed parts, so it's not really a cameo.
I-E-D 10th August 2009, 16:51 Quote
They could get a real soldier to do it £50, and some of them sound proper hard (having talked to ALOT).

You never know, he might be doing it for free? :S

I was going by a small theatrical role usually performed by a well-known actor and often limited to a single scene; broadly : a brief appearance or role, but I do find your definition to be better. In that respect, no, it's not really a cameo. I sit corrected. =)

Argh! Why?! It's not like they need the money...

I hate stuff like this, it's all just an obvious cash-in. Like Soul Calibur IV; ruined by stupid Star Wars characters with a lame ass story.

ot: at the current exchange rate, 50cent is equal to about 30pence.

Ok, why is there a picture of a 50 pence coin? You should be showing a 20p and a 10p together... At least I think 50c is about 30p at the current exchange rate.

Yo thriddy!!! ;)

No one takes it seriously? LOL, most console gamers and fanboys I know think and will argue not only is it the greatest game evar, but the most realistic, yes, realistic war sim, lol.

And how much is this "actor" going to add to the cost of production?
Tell me again how his voice "acting" improves my gaming experience?

Next they will raise the cost of teh game, then complain about pirates and/or poor sales.

I know it's "cool and all" to hate 50cent, or any rapper for that matter, but if you don't buy the game specifically because of this then you're stupid. CoD games are all about multiplayer and even if you prefer the single player then I can't possibly understand why the voice of one.single.character can make the game impossible to enjoy

But it's still an unnecessary expense. Especially after they've already raised the RRP.
