Sam Raimi previously directed the Evil Dead and Spiderman films, both of which had Bruce Campbell in them.
Legendary Pictures and Blizzard have confirmed the circulating rumours that Sam Raimi will be directing the upcoming
World of Warcraft movie, which has been in pre-production for several years now.
The rumour was confirmed this morning by
Variety, after
Ain't It Cool News reported that the director was almost certainly attached to the project.
Also attached to the project is Charles Roven, producer for The Dark Knight and Blizzard's Senior Vice President of Creative Development Chris Metzen, who'll co-produce the movie. Raimi himself will be supervising early work on the
World of Warcraft movie while also directing Spiderman 4 throughout next year.
Raimi is a somewhat unusual choice to direct the movie obviously, but his cult appeal from the Evil Dead series and work on classics like The Hudsucker Proxy has earned him a certain reputation, as has his close work with actor Bruce Campbell - who is now virtually guaranteed to get a cameo in the the film. His work on the Evil Dead film and his blend of slapstick comedy and over-the-top gore could potentially be well-suited to the
World of Warcraft universe too.
"
At its core, Warcraft is a fantastic, action-packed story," said Raimi. "
I am thrilled to work with such a dynamite production team to bring this project to the big screen."
No other details about the film are available at the moment, but the press releases do refer to it as 'Warcraft', not
World of Warcraft.
Our pals over at Den of Geek have cobbled together a nice round-up of some of Sam Raimi's best non-horror films, so head over there if you want to check out his credentials. Be sure to let us know your thoughts in

At least it ain't gonna be Uwe Boll this time.
Are we going to see "The Sword of a Thousand Truths!" and will we see a nOOb use it?
Yea because adapting books - like the majority of famous older movies did shows so much more imagination..
Best. Campbell. Quote. Ever.
"How could I have gone from the king of rock'n'roll to this? An old guy in a restroom in East Texas with a *growth* on his pecker. "
Strange choice of director, would be cool to see Bruce on his horse getting chased by 'Large Rat 2 Attack 1 Defence', and like Dave said, whats the plot?
Will be hard to capture the whole idea of levelling a character so will it turn out to be another expensive Dungeons and Dragons flop?
Wrong.
It's clearly one of these:

Have been thinking of gettting Campbells book, "If chins could kill".
Don't know if this'll be good or not. Hopefully it'll have Mr T as what ever elf character he had in the WOW ad.
If Chins Could Kill is a very good read actually :)

Joe is right it is a good read. On a side note where Sam and Bruce filmed the house in evil dead is in the town in which I live . . . well was until like the 100th Séance happened and the owner decided to bulldoze down the house :( But yea I quite enjoyed the part of the book where Bruce talks about whole part of his life which is evil dead and Morristown TN.
the rest of the evil deads were just average flicks.. he played some role as a butt pirate in xena the warrior princess too
not sure if this movie would be any good.. if someone yells stfu in the movie it might make it more realistic.. rather see a guildwars flick on the big screen, but done by the same guys who made bruno and borat.. long as it doesn't turn out like doom the movie with dwain cookin some bi-curious
I smell bad movies.
Autolicus was NOT a butt pirate.
