Duke Nukem 3D will soon be coming to the iPhone and iPod Touch, though without a multiplayer element.
Developer MachineWorks Northwest is preparing to bring the classic 90's shooter
Duke Nukem 3D to the iPhone and iPod touch in the near future, according to
IGN.
Of course, a port of
Duke Nukem 3D has long been available to owners of jailbroken iPhones and
Duke 3D is one of the cadre of games which, along with
Doom, usually finds itself instantly ported to any new system - but this will be a legitimate copy of the game found in the AppStore.
According to IGN the iPhone version of
Duke Nukem 3D will include the full singleplayer element of the original game, with slightly retouched graphics and a new control system. It'll lack the multiplayer side of the game, but otherwise it looks to be content-complete, strippers and all.
The new control system will use a somewhat cluttered-looking HUD that allows users to switch between either a tap-to-shoot or button based aiming system.
There's no definite word on how much the iPhone version of
Duke Nukem 3D might cost, nor a firm release date, but the game is apparently nearly finished and is being prepped for final submission to Apple as we type.
When it is released, iPhone
Duke 3D will join it's retro brethren
Doom and
Wolfenstein 3D on the iPhone. Let us know what you think of the growing roster of retro titles on the iPhone platform in
the forums.
Sign me up for that **** right now.
If it plays anything like Wolfenstein I'll pick it up.
Which control interface option did you use? As I got the free version the other day and tried it for 2 mins but simply couldn't get away with it.
But it could be a different story when you have Duke saying shake it baby. Ahh I still remember playing this when I was 10/11 years old, before my mam banned me from playing it after GMTV were saying what an evil and corrupting game it was, still that only lasted 2 days.
^^mr fox I was using the left thumb to move forward back and straife. right thumb was looking left and right and also tapping on the gun to shoot. Super smooth and a real joy to play.
Exactly what I did/thought. ;)
i find the screen too small for real FPS action. and i hardly have time for long action games, fieldrunner/trism FTW
It's only a matter of time... hopefully not "when it's done"
Made me sad though, maybe because it's so true. :(
