Gearbox boss Randy Pitchford has confirmed that the studio is still working tirelessly on Aliens: Colonial Marines despite rumours of repeated delays and cancellation. That's the good news.

The bad news though is that, while the title is still definitely in development, Gearbox has pushed the release date back again - so don't expect it to hit shelves until early 2010 at the earliest.

Set to be published by Sega, Colonial Marines is one of three new titles being developed around the Alien license, each by a different developer. While Gearbox is working on the aforementioned human-orientated shooter, original Alien Versus Predator Rebellion is working on a new AVP title and Obsidian create a new and as yet unnamed Alien RPG.

Originally set for a late 2008 release, Colonial Marines has suffered repeated delays and has been pushed back again and again, leading many fans to question whether it'll ever see the light of day. The same has proven true for Obsidian's RPG, though news on the new AVP has been steadily trickling out.

In that 2008-to-Present time period though Gearbox has released a number of other games, including BIA: Hell's Highway, and is currently working on the upcoming Borderlands, so it seems likely that existing titles may be slowing down work on Colonial Marines.
