Battlefield 3 announced

Hopefully, Battlefield 3 won't have the cartoony visuals and casual focus of Battlefield Heroes.

Electronic Arts COO John Pleasants has inadvertendly confirmed that Battlelfield 3 is in development during a conference call with stock holders, according to G4.

There are currently absolutely zero details available on the game, other than the fact that it will definitely not be out as part of this fiscal year.

"I've had the luxury of looking at Battlefield 3 over at DICE in Sweden and was highly impressed by the way the team is working on that product," said Pleasants in a call with members of William Blair Growth Stock.

"Of course, that's not [coming out] in the fiscal year, but that is a product that is looking very good," he continued.

That means that DICE currently has at least three new Battlefield games in development - Battlefield Heroes, Battlefield 1943 and now the full-blow sequel, Battlefield 3. Could they be in danger of over-saturating the market with the Battlefield franchise?

Oh, and there's Battlefield: Bad Company 2 as well, so really there are four games in development that bear the Battlefield label. Yikes. Let us know your thoughts in the forums.

Ahhh. The Return of the King.... in 2010!

Lets hope they dont nerf it into a multi release console version incapable of maximising the benefits the PC world has to offer - Im looking at atleast 64 player huge maps with graphics worthy of the PC... not the 4 year old consoles (of which I own all 3)

oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooh yeh baby. not 1, not 2 but 3 games coming. hazzah i say.

although i've been on the beta for heroes for like a year, or how ever long they;ve been running that and i've played that to death as far as i'm concerned. someone else can have bad company unless its ported onto the pc where it belongs. i want some bf 3 and 1943 action, thats where the money is, hopefully the gfx look super sweet as i want an good excuse to buy a new gfx card, saying that, if all goes well in my life, i'll be able to compare bf3 to life on the front line as a royal marine commando. Good times

peace

Well they're all different enough to warrant it.

Battlefield Heroes is a free to play casual shooter that's very different from the normal BF formula
1943 is a small mini game set in WW2 that uses the same style multiplayer as Bad Company
Bad Company 2 has a large single player element to it and the multiplayer, while it shares some similarities, is still quite different
Then Battlefield 3 is the real one I imagine, this one will be the next real battlefield (and I imagine set modern day)

Ditto. BF2 FTW. Lets hope BF3 turns out to be just as good (with fewer bugs and better support thrown in too!)

I really hope it's modern day as well. WW2 has been done to death and I wasn't as keen on 2142.

Yeah! Brand new opportunity to bunny hop, base rape and fire the worlds least powerful sniper rifles, all while being pwned by children hogging all the aircraft. Fun times ahead!

I agree, give me modern day warfare you just can't beat it! I played BF2 far too much and hopefully this fill a similar slot.

This doesn't make a lot of sense to me. There's bf 1942, bf vietnam, bf2, bf2142, bf bad company, now bf 3??
Quote zimbloggy 11th June 2009, 14:28
I am guessing that they don't count vietnam, bad company, and 2142.

Not impressed, they should really concentrate on making BF 1943 a full on game, 1942 was by far and away the most skillful and fun to play., was nothing quiet like mastering the artillery with a decent sniper.

I really never got the appeal of these games. The maps are big, sure, but the combat always felt like complete ass to me, with almost zero tactile response with the weapons. Vehicles are alright but handle way too arcadey for my tastes. I never got the impression I was ever really doing anything important - progress or failure.

The gameplay and the enjoyment/sense of achievement from these games really depends on who you play the game with (who's on the server you join). If you get into a tight squad and play together as such then it comes into it's own. Otherwise, yes, sometimes you wonder why you even bother!

All 3, how mutch money do you have :)

but none the less, bought the game 3 years ago and am still playing it...
It would be nice if they made Bad company a console and left BF3 for the pc, that way they could optimise the games for their specific target platform. but maybe I'm just dreaming here

Wow, another Battlefield game. Who finds running around a giant battle field for 20 minutes trying to to get to an objective fun? The only Battlefield that was fun was Vietnam, and that was because of the music.

I guess the point here is I hope they won't release another full of bugs game or else they will lose potential players

Hate to bring this up but, it needs doing: http://www.bit-tech.net/news/gaming/2009/02/17/put-your-questions-to-dice/1

As long as its based along the lines of BF2 and PC only, I cant wait. :D
