Bethesda making mature Wii game

Bethesda says it has at least one mature game for the Nintendo Wii planned, but it's a secret for now.

Bethesda Softworks, the developer and publisher behind Fallout 3 and The Elder Scrolls series has revealed that it is planning to release some mature games for the Nintendo Wii in the future. Bethesda hasn't detailed what the games are, nor how many they are working on, but has said it will be revealing at least one title very soon.

"We are going to make an announcement on a really big Wii game this year, we've got a couple of other things in the pipeline, and it's a format we're really looking at with the right approach," revealed Sean Brennan, managing director for Bethesda in Europe, in an interview with GI.biz.

Countering some of the expectations of fans, Brennan said that Bethesda would definitely be targeting its Wii games at the hardcore audience and would not be developing casual or family-friendly titles.

"I've got consoles at home but I wouldn't sit and play an 18-rated game with my family on the Wii," he said. "Is there space in the Wii market for that? I think there is, but again, it's all about finding out how big that is. Is it 5 per cent? If it's five per cent of the market and you can own that space it's worth doing because you can achieve volume. If you can't own it at five per cent, it's not worth doing, quite frankly," he added.

"We're not going to establish a new range and call if 'My Girly Game Range' or whatever these other companies are doing, it's so me-too and boring...We're not going to do a hamster simulator, it's not us. We're not going to produce games for girls or pet-sim products. There's nothing to distinguish them from one another," he said.

Bethesda is only one of a number of developers and publishers that have been attempting to tackle the hardcore market on the Wii, with Electronic Arts set to release Dead Space: Extraction soon and Sega having just released House of the Dead: Overkill and MadWorld.

What would you like to see in a hardcore Wii game, or are you just hoping for Fallout on the Wii? Let us know what you think in the forums.

Beth making mature games. My bet is..

POKER! Not strip, just regular poker. And the worst cussing will be "Your mother is ugly".

Seriously, they are not creative enough for a mature game.

No what would be cool using the Wii controler (not the wii because it can't handle the highdeff graphics) would be BIOshock2. Its a game you really can "get into" add to that custom wii controls would be perfect. Sadly the Wii just does not have to power for a good port of the game. Oh well maybe Wii2.

Bethesda might want to take another look at this descision. Games like Mad World (good but sold poorly) say otherwise about the Wii and mature games.

I could give 2 sh*ts about a mature game on the Wii. The need to be concentrating on TES V dammit!!!! Whatever they are doing, I hope it's not some crappy watered down version of another franchise they own.

So is this Bethesda the developer or the publisher? They go by the same name so it's confusing. Cause they could be allocating this to a team that they publish for, thus not taking any time off Elder Scrolls/Fallout.
