Could a Fallout TV series be in development, or will we have to cope with re-runs of Jericho instead?
Bethesda Softworks, developer of
The Elder Scrolls series and current owner of the
Fallout brand, has applied for trademarks protecting a future TV series and film based on the
Fallout universe.
The trademark applications were spotted by
Dwell On It,
via Joystiq, and were apparently filed at the start of February.
Whether Bethesda is actively involved in or seeking to create such products is unknown but, since the studio hasn't made any announcement or have any proven interest in extending the brand beyond the singleplayer RPG series, it seems more likely that the trademarks exist to protect the franchise.
Bethesda hasn't even expressed that big a desire to make an MMO within the
Fallout world, licensing those rights out to original
Fallout creators Interplay, though those
rights are now in jeopardy.
Bethesda has yet to offer up any official comment, though news of a possible
Fallout TV series has drawn mixed reactions from fans. We'll keep you posted if there's any more info.
In the mean time, let us know what you think of how Bethesda is handling the
Fallout brand in
the forums. Would you be interested in a new post-nuclear TV series, or is the genre starting to get a bit over-exposed for you?

Dear Yemerich,
After I saw what they've done with FO3, I myself would pilot those planes!
Best regards,

On its own Fallout 3 is a great game, a rollicking good romp but sadly not a worthy successor to Fallout 2 and the exclusivity deal with Microsoft is beyond excuse. It is however a major improvement on the dumbed down travesty of Oblivion. Come on Beth. you can do it, each step forward made in Fo3 has its roots in the pre-Oblivion past, put down the consoles, chill the adrenalin junkies, strike visceral from your dictionary and let the writers have their way.
Fallout 3 isn't just about the violence and despair, like that's what makes it fun, but violence plays a big role in other video games too.
From what I heard there was a series that sounded similar to Fallout with the post apocalyptic theme. It was called Jericho.

I could actually see it working. As long as it is directed well and isn't direct to Sci Fi Channel.
But who knows, it will probably get effed up by doing so. :(
To be honest, this kinda worries me.
I would rather hear about a sequel or an expansion to Fallout 3 instead of a movie or TV series.
Ninja edit 2: lol, I didn't even know there was the mention of Jericho in the article.
