Sony wants more GTA PSP

Sony wants more GTA PSP

Sony says that it is still a little surprised to see GTA on the DS, but that it still wants more Rockstar on the PSP.

One of the biggest shocks in handheld gaming last year was that Rockstar and Nintendo were teaming up to release GTA; Chinatown Wars on the Nintendo DS. Most shocked by the announcement it seems was Sony, who has previously entertained two GTA titles on the PSP.

Speaking to MTV Sony's John Koller said that he was somewhat surprised by the announcement of GTA: Chinatown Wars on the DS and that Sony would be watching the release very closely.

"It's an interesting launch on DS," he said. "It raises some eyebrows in a lot of areas. It'll be interesting to see how that sells."

Koller said that the reason he was so surprised by the announcement was that he sees the DS fanbase being made up mainly of children under the age of 12 - an unsuitable audience for this game, most likely.

Koller, whose day job is as Sony's Hardware Marketing Chief, said that he wouldn't rule out another Grand Theft Auto game on the PSP though, as both Vice City Stories and Liberty City Stories sold very well on the PlayStation Portable. According to Koller Sony is still in continued discussions with Rockstar about making more GTA games for the PSP.

Do you think Rockstar is likely to return to the PSP platform, or will it stay on the more popular and lucrative DS? Let us know your thoughts in the forums.

It'll certainly be interesting to see how a GTA game transfers to the DS platform. Apart from an inventory system or using the touchscreen as a satnav, I can't see how much more the touchscreen would change the game. How will the GTA world look on the DS? It's not reknowned for being a graphical powerhouse, that's for sure.

it'd probably go back to it's roots as a top down affair (like the PS1 version). But saying that, it's suprising what can be done on the DS. In either case, I've never been a fan of GTA it's just not my style of game.
