Resi 5 had no changes after racism row

Capcom has made no changes to Resident Evil 5 even after allegations of racism and is very happy with the game.

Resident Evil 5 producer, Masachika Kawata, has said that despite allegations of racism in Capcom's latest game no changes have been made to Resident Evil 5.

"I don't recall modifying the game in any way after the controversy of racism," said Kawata-san in an interview with Eurogamer recently.

The allegations first surfaced when Newsweek's N'Gai Croal mentioned the issue in an interview last year in which he commented on how apparently only black people were presented as enemies in the game.

"It was a little bit of a surprise for us as obviously the game is set in Africa and so depicting native Africans was a natural thing to do," said Kawata-san in Capcom's defense, again insisting that this was a total non-issue and that it hadn't altered development of the survival horror title. In fact, the Resident Evil 5 producer remarked on how quickly the row had faded from the public's memory.

"One thing I remember is that after the introduction of the character Sheva, who is half-African, half-European, everything died down and we're quite happy with that," he said.

Resident Evil 5 is currently set for a release on the 13th of March for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, so we'll be able to check it out and form our own thoughts soon enough. Until then, let us know what you think in the forums.

Now word of a PC version coming around, huh? Anyway, good news that they didn't change anythingso I can shoot black people so it's still realistic. Shooting whites in Africa... doh! :)

Doesn't change the fact that it plays like a pig (well... the demo does anyway...)

QFT, the whole thing was silly to start with, imagine someone would sue each time a game shows a white person in america / europe.

What if it was set in the far east and all the bad guys were yellow (chinese, japanese) or green (philipine, malaysian), why is a situation like this never seen as racism?

is it me or is racism is just one of those things being too overrated nowadays

Has Croal played the full game yet? ...

good for them for not getting scared. It's not like they haven't had 4 other similar games with many, many white people.

"The controls feel stiff" - Has never played an RE game.

"You can't move and shoot" - Has never played an RE game.

Seriously people, stop disliking a game for the reasons that make a game series what it is.

Can't remember which developer said it but move and shoot is a westerner complaint. They were going to change it for RE5 to meet the demand, but I guess not. Move n shoot on mass groups is a movie stunt anyways. As for the "stiff" control, if they were any looser you might as well just play Craplo 3.

Topic: People would complain if it took place in South Africa because of its' rough history.

And said demo (before you even take control of Chris) warns you that it is not a final build......
UrbanMarine 18th February 2009, 18:09 Quote
Yup. For all we know the build is 7+ builds old.

It is shameful there is no Wii version. The controls rocks for such games. The console has the best control for shooting games. Yes, it beats the mouse. For example, Check out Metroid Prime 3.
