Postal 2 displayed in Nobel Museum

Postal 2 proved a controversial and gory game, though it was also pretty rubbish if you ask us.

Controversial developer Running with Scissors has announced that Postal 2 is to be included in a new art exhibit at the Nobel Museum in Sweden that will focus on free speech.

According to MTV the gory and totally-NSFW game will be included in an exhibit about free speech titled How Free is Free?

Postal 2 attracted much attention when it was first released, giving players the chance to stalk and torture passers-by, as well as urinate on enemies (or allies). The game was also heavily negative in it's portrayal of Muslims and was full of swearing and exorbitant gore. Postal 2 featured weapons like anthrax-filled cows heads and machine guns that could be silenced by putting live kittens over the barrel.

As such the game is being included in the exhibit, asking the question of "What happens when freedom of expression is used as protection to spread prejudices and messages of hate?"

"Having something something of a heavy crush on freedom of speech ourselves, RWS was only too happy to co-operate," the developer said in a statement, adding that they'd worked closely with the Nobel Museum on the exhibit.

Running with Scissors is current hard at work on a third title in the Postal series, which will this time be a third person shooter and include new weapons like rabid badgers strapped into harnesses. The franchise has also been adapted into a film directed by Uwe Boll.

The exhibit opens in Stockholm on the 12th of February - let us know in the forums if you're going to pop along.

Rubbish? I always thought it was brilliant in its sick kind of way.

I actually bought it when it came out - it's a guilty pleasure of mine. Totally awful in every way, but there are times when you just need to taser something until it starts smoking.

I agree with CardJoe - it's like a bad Stallone movie. Once in a while you have to have a blowout. :D

... and then kick it in the head, then urinate on it.

Funny as hell game! Crotchy the cuddly scrotum? First mission being to pick up your pay-check for the first game? Books are murder for trees?

"forgive me father for I have sinned. No really!"

hilarious game if rather immature!

I don't really want to know what they smoked before they thought of that

Postal 2 was fun, just don't take it serious and have fun doing things you would never even be able to think of, much less do them in rl.

Postal 2 was brilliant.

Comedy violence at it's best, p*****g on someone, smacking their head off with a shovel, kicking it down the road then setting light to it, great fun, sounds evil, but it was great fun and hardly the kind of thing anyone's likely to copy in real life or have real life violence blamed on it.

Bring on Postal 3 :)

Did any of you guys watch the Postal movie?

Loved Postal 2 for its complete lack of political correctness and humour, albeit in bad taste.
Nothing but sheer entertainment.

Me to :l

Although sick, twisted, strange and slightly neurotic, I loved playing occasionally..
(But other members of the family wondered what the sounds were,
and were thinking about calling the police, so I gave it up O.o)

never played it, they just didn't look that well made or fun, but I could be wrong. I don't have a problem with the violence or anything, I think it's there to shock the mainstream etc and generate press, but it also gives us as gamers a bad image and reasons to ban games.
Zero_UK 30th January 2009, 07:52 Quote
postal 2. Ahh what a game lol, on paper it sounds like the most wrong game ever.. but really when you play it, its perhaps the funniest game you could ever play. They didn't go for realism and it was such a stress relief when playing it as it was so over exudate lol. It made every day life a complete over the top disaster and your in the middle of it - but half of these the player causes with what they do.. if they do everything right they'll be fine. But rofl, just funny trying to steal the milk and you get rushed by ninjas, or seeing a parade getting owned by a suicide bomber, smacking some guys head around and playing catch with it for your dog rofl.
Bauul 30th January 2009, 09:46 Quote
Wasn't it theoretically possible to complete the game without comitting any violence other than self-defence? Waiting in line to buy the milk was sooooo difficult! You just were so desperate to kill everyone and run off with it... for no particular reason other than impatience. Brought the evil out in all of us!

Although to be fair, nothing (and I mean nothing) was funnier than the cheat that made the machine gun shoot flying cats. Hearing a "meow" being affected by the doppler effect was absolutely priceless.
