Gears of War 2 puts a much stronger focus on the romantic subplot between Dom and his missing wife, Maria.
Chatting about Gears of War 2 and the romantic subplot that plays out as Dom tracks down his wife, developer Cliff Blezinski says he wanted to include more romance in the first game but didn't have full confidence in Epic's ability to tell a story.
"
I wanted to put it in the first one, honestly," Bleszinski told
MTV when discussing the Dom / Maria romance that featured so prominently in the second game.
"
It was one of the things [where] we didn't have the confidence in our abilities as storytellers at that time. And we didn't have the time to get it in there."
Thus, instead of getting the full story of Dom searching for his lost wife, all players got in the first game was a glimpse of a tattoo on Dom's arm and brief reference to his wife. In the second game however Epic had clearly gained a lot more confidence in their ability to tell a story as the game actually opens with Dom chasing down leads in an effort to find Maria.
It's really hard to do. I think we did an admirable job of it. Is it a Nicholas Sparks romance? No, it's not. But there's a little bit of heart in there. For some reason, Gears seems to have more of a female following than other shooters, continued Cliff.
"
It's kind of a good priority to have, I think," he added. "
If everything in the game is so badass and nasty, then you just lose perspective. It's like a person who just yells all the time."

Last i checked being a video game designer hardly makes him anything, many other great Game designers have made better games then him don't constantly run their mouth. Get off his nut sack.
Jeeze you're gonna last long here...
Since when was saying he had hoped for more romance in Gears 1 "run their mouth"
I'm aware he's been in a lot of other articles saying stuff but if people come to him and interview him he has the right to speak his mind!
"Last i checked being a video game designer hardly makes him anything"
Last time I checked being a jackass who is jealous of a man who is the producer/director of a very successful games series and makes much more money than you'll probably EVER own wasn't that respectable and it doesn't make you anything except an idiot.
So he comments on this and that? It's a free country. Don't like it? Don't read it! No need to be an arrogant p**** about it.
Seriously Leper, I'm failing to understand your problem here, Gears of War's lead creator has commented on introducing a romantic storyline into one of Epic's games.
Chill.
I also request you lower your tone in future discussions.
CliffyB makes more than enough and is a very visible figure. He makes tonnes. It's the developers and animators who work under him and who actually do all the work he tells them to that don't get paid as much and who have to work twenty hour days for months on end. Cliff is more a storyline creator and and public face for the company - he doesn't actually do any of the coding IIRC.
Leper, nicest way i can say this "fook off you ******"
Aside from the very wealthiest people there's always gonna be people making more than person X.
Okay I can't even be bothered replying to the BS overload that is detected in that post so I'll keep it simple:
You sir have an unhealthy obsession with fantasizing about CliffyB's genitals. I'd keep it to yourself in future.
Also it's not "worship" just because I'm defending the guy coz some idiot on a forum is jealous that someone is making way more money than you'll ever see and have a tantrum everytime he says something. Grow up. Or Get off Bit-tech. :D
