Ghostbusters game coming next year

Atari has confirmed that it will be publishing the Ghostbusters game next year to celebrate the 25th anniversary.

Atari has confirmed that it has bought the rights to Ghostbusters: The Videogame and will be publishing the game next year on the PC, PS2, PS3, DS, Wii and Xbox 360.

Atari picked up the rights after they fell into limbo when Activision took control of Vivendi Universal and discarded any games they didn't feel they could continue to exploit for a number of years. Other abandoned titles included Double Fine's Brutal Legend and 50 Cent: Blood on the Sand.

The Ghostbusters game will now be published next year to coincide with the 25th anniversary of the original movie.

"Ghostbusters: The Videogame is a fantastic addition to Atari’s global line-up in 2009," said Phil Harrison, who recently moved from Sony to Infogrames.

"The title has built considerable anticipation and excitement among game fans for its high quality action and all-out mayhem. There’s no more thrilling Ghostbusting experience to be had, short of building your own proton pack."

Meanwhile Phil Harrison's former employer, Sony, is planning to launch a new series of comics, toys, shirts and so on to help celebrate the 25th anniversay of the film too. There'll also be a Blu-ray release of the film and a new theme park ride based around the movie, apparently.

Who was your favourite Ghostbuster? We always preferred Egon, but let us know your thoughts in the forums.

Now, all that needs to happen is Atari to release a good game (Recently).

Please let it be Ghostbusters.

Bustin' makes me feel good!

Venkman: "It wouldn't have happened if dickless here hadn't shut off the containment field."
Mayor: "Is that true?"
Venkman: "Yes, it's true: this man has no dick."

I'm glad Atari picked it up, the few gameplay videos I saw earlier on in the year looked quite good.

omg I love the GB and grew up watching them, soooo going to get this game. I just hope it doesnt suck like when they were trying to get the hype of GB back up and made Ghost Busters Xtreme animated series, I mean it was neat but just lacked that real Ghost Buster feel. ^__^

I have actually played the Ghostbusters game that came out for the Apple II in 1984. I wonder how this one will compare.

I remember playing it on the Speccy waaaay back, allowing for system limitations it was a lot of fun. A modern version should be brilliant - can you imagine how much fun co-op would be?

Just in case anybody's missed it, there's a trailer out for the new game:
LyVGSGynYpg
HD version available here.

It looks as though most of the trailer is pre-rendered, but it looks promising. Good that all of the original cast are providing the voice talent.
