Jack Thomspon disbarrment made official

Jack Thompson's disbarment from the Florida Bar has now been made official in the eyes of the law.

Jack Thompson, the Miami attorney who was a constant thorn in the side of many games developers, has now been officially disbarred following a recommendation and investigation from Judge Dava Tunis this September.

Thompson had become notorious among the games community for his fight against violence in computer games and the numerous connections he put between computer gamers and murderers. Thompson was especially vocal on his contempt for Grand Theft Auto, which he often referred to as a murder simulator.

Thompson was recommended for permanent disbarment this year on charges of abusing the legal system and 27 different counts of misconduct. As well as getting permanently disbarred, Thompson was also forced to pay $43,675.35 in legal fees to the court.

Now it looks as if that disbarment has gone through and been made totally official, with the Florida Bar updating the official website to reflect the ruling according to GamePolitics.

It's like the end of an era, albeit one we're kind of glad to see the end of.

Are you glad that Thompson has been officially disbarred, or are you worried he might move onto bigger and more potentially annoying things? Let us know in the forums.

noooooooo, there goes a little more humour from the industry, was amusing when looking on bit that he had done somthing stupid yet again, added some humour to my day, but now it's almost certainly gone.
But YAY, he has gone, at last:D

I somehow doubt that this will stop him from doing anything stupid :)

Ding Dong! The Witch is dead. Which old Witch? The Wicked Witch!
Ding Dong! The Wicked Witch is dead.
Wake up - sleepy head, rub your eyes, get out of bed.
Wake up, the Wicked Witch is dead. She's gone where the goblins go,
Below - below - below. Yo-ho, let's open up and sing and ring the bells out.
Ding Dong' the merry-oh, sing it high, sing it low.
Let them know
The Wicked Witch is dead!

and such

Is it possible that he could just take the bar exam again in another state?

Not dead, unfortunately, just declawed. He might not be able to sink his teeth into you anymore, but he'll still find ways to make himself heard. I foresee a "Special Correspondent" position on Fox News in his future.

At last.
The Supreme Court records make interesting reading. The causes for his disbarment go way beyond the amusing crap he's famous here for. I'd question how the man was ever allowed to practise law in the first place.

Couldn't have happened to a nicer guy. What a clown. Gives us lawyers a bad name, and believe me we've got enough bad press as it is!

I'm gonna miss him tbh.
I know he spoke utter drivel and far too many simple-minded parents etc believed everything he had to say but at least it put the focus on the fact kids can just go buy an 18 rated game without issue.
Or even worse, just get their parents to buy it for them.

He'd been laying low for a while there, I've almost forgotten how outrageous his claims were. Heck, the last big media scare (mass effect sex simulator) he sided with gamers on! I'm sure he'll make headlines again though xD

Way to revoke one's making a living, altogether--couldn't settle for dissolution of participation in media-related cases?

Bravo, gamers: you really won it all this time.

The actual charges are pretty shocking, giving false evidence, hiding critical evidence, contempt of courts, attempting to intimidate oposing council, witnesses, trying to convince judges to rule his way outside of work hours, engaging in a smear campaign to try and harass a judge that disagreed with him into stepping down, making public things he was specifically ordered not to by courts, practising law where he had no legal right and many more, its a wonder he wasn't jailed instead of just being disbarred to be honest.
