Call of Duty 5 to have co-op zombie Nazi mode

Call of Duty 5: World at War will feature a new co-op mode with waves of zombie Nazis.

Treyarch announced this weekend that the new Call of Duty game, World at War, would include a controversial new co-op mode that will be unlockable after the singleplayer campaign is complete.

The game mode will be a survival variant that features up to four players who must work together to survive continuing waves of Nazi zombies who have an awful craving for fresh, patriotic flesh.

This survival mode will apparently have some strategy elements woven into it too and, by wiping out swathes of these unliving national socialists players will be able to earn money that can be invested in various upgrades. Players will apparently be able to unlock and buy new weapons as they progress, as well as add new defences on to the base they are defending.

The new mode, which was announced on Gametrailers TV by Treyarch studio head Mark Lamia, has proven controversial with some fans who see the addition of it as a move away from the serious traditions of the game. Others see it as a half-assed attempt to try and copy Left4Dead.

Personally, we don't care. Zombies are always good.

Call of Duty: World at War is set for release mid-November on all platforms except the PSP, but in the mean time you can tell us what you think about it all in the forums.

Left 4 Dead anyone :P Should still be fun though im hoping they do it right.
Quote proxess 27th October 2008, 10:26
It really does sound like a half-ass copy of Left4Dead, other than that, no matter how much you dislike them, they're mocking someone's descendants and a part of world history.

At first I looked at the date and didn't see any April 1st.
I wonder what went through their heads when they thought up this. They must be eager to play L4D.

I'm cautiously optimistic about this madness.

It sounds like a fun mode, if I were interested in this game I would be happy, but there are so many titles I'm playing this Christmas I don't have time to bother with a non infinity ward CoD. The 4 player co op thing reeks of copying Left4Dead, but in actuality it's almost a blend between that and the survival mode announced in Gears 2. I don't get why they limited it to 4 players though, wouldn't 8 players in this mode be just as good? (Assuming there were larger maps for it)
Quote Xtrafresh 27th October 2008, 11:07
indeed. If properly executed a big fortess should be fun to defend with up to 16 people. That would make epic LAN party gaming :D

bandwagon?

I can imagine the meeting where they decided this;

Marketing: Right guys, feedback isn't good from the general public, we need a way to increase peoples interest in the game due to COD3. Any ideas?
Developer #1: We could put more footage of the flamethrower out?
Marketing: Done that to death.
Dev #2: *wakes up from nightmare* ZOMBIESSSSSSSSSS!
Marketing: Hmmm, kind of left 4 dead style?
Dev #2: Erm, yes...

Don't forget the discussion after extensive calling out on the intarbutz!

"Dev1: ****, someone noticed we're riding on L4D's coat tails!
Marketing: Hm. Why not say we had the idea from the start, and L4D copied us?
Dev2: But our engine is way too new for them to have copied us. People will know we didn't start until recently.
Marketing: We'll reclass it as a main campaign mode, dumb the engine down a lot, and make the Nazis more evil. Like, have one shooting a little kids rabbit in the opening scene.
Dev1: Done."

No one here ever played the zombie mod for cod2 and cod4. Was lots of fun and very popular. I think this will be a pleasant surprise! Don't knock it till you tried it!

I am sorry, this is just ridiculous.
Quote rjkoneill 27th October 2008, 12:07
not only is it not being done by IW
but it isnt modern WF
and it now has zombies [which was a boring mod]

this is actually the stupidest thing i have ever heard
Quote Xir 27th October 2008, 12:07
Can you at least play the zombienazi's? ;-)

should include rapist redneck trees...
Quote Shadowed_fury 27th October 2008, 12:12
If IW was making this game, most people would be happy about it.
I feel sorry for Treyarch, imo, the game on every level looks like a mass WII expansion for COD4. Oh, and I don't see why people are knocking WII based games either really.
Graphically, this is on another level to past games anyway.

Zombie Nazi's? Return to Castle Wolfenstein anyone?
Quote Yemerich 27th October 2008, 13:54
I think it is a good idea. For everyone else that DON'T like the zombie idea, just play the regular mode for chrissake!

I really doubt that there will be much more than a skin revamp in the regular nazi chars thou...

LOL

i literally had to read this three times, are you serious??!! we've been running around shooting nazi's in the face since the days of wolfenstein (biomech hitler boss anyone), they've been consistently mocked in film and on stage (the producers anyone) since WWII and quite rightly so. you think that putting zombie textures on the character models really makes this game THAT much more disrespectful?
Quote proxess 27th October 2008, 17:06
Its the same if I made a bad-ass comment about Americans in the Vietnam war, I bet it wouldn't be acceptable and would be disrespectful and I'd probably be banned. Yet all Vietnam war games Americans look like heroes. Why so?
Quote E.E.L. Ambiense 27th October 2008, 17:07
That's really weird. Just watched a flick late last night called "Outpost" and it dealt with undead Nazis. Huh.

The only reason I'm asking this was because of a flick i saw some time ago about an American which cursed and ex-Nazi Military which in fact was the Military Cook. Might not seem to be related but hey, what bothers me more is the mocking of world history.

Ok you're talking about something different now. Americans are made to look like heroes in games that are made by americans, in a way its inevitable.

I very much doubt you'd be banned for badmouthing americans to be honest, dont know if you'd noticed but most people this side of the atlantic have been doing just that for a good while now.

60yr Victory Dance.

Vietnam would be more of touchy subject than WWII. My uncle's in his 60s now and if you talked trash about his days in Nam he'd most likely punch your teeth in.
Quote DougEdey 27th October 2008, 18:33
I just saw a video of it, it looked shite

Brrraaaiiinnnsss!!!

Side Note: Shaun of the Dead is imo the best zombie movie ever. If you haven't seen it, you are really missing out.

To be fair to COD5, you cant really say that it is a rip off or whatever of Left4Dead when COD5 was released before Left4Dead, so yeah.

no need to bump an old thread for that

Just started playing this. I love left4dead,but this is great also. If your a fan of Tower defence, this is pretty much that type of game. There's quite a few custom maps about that are superb. Just downloaded a 28 map pack and at least 50% are really good.
If anyones up for some survival action, i'm around most evenings.
(need to get on the Bit-tech steam community):D
