LittleBigPlanet has been both delayed and recalled due to included quotes from the Qur'an.
An Islamic non-profit group called American Islamic Forum for Democracy has commented on Sony's recall of
LittleBigPlanet and said that it doesn't see it as A Good Thing.
Sony recalled all copies of
LittleBigPlanet, as well as delaying the European release of the game, after they discovered that there was two lines from the Qur'an inserted into one of the pieces of background music. Sony never received any official complaints about the game, but decided to recall it anyway in order to avoid causing offence and the issue has since flared into a serious discussion.
Speaking to
Edge, M. Zuhdi Jasser, M.D., president of the non-profit American Islamic Forum for Democracy, said that he did not see Muslims benefitting from this kind of self-censorship.
“
Muslims cannot benefit from freedom of expression and religion and then turn around and ask that anytime their sensibilities are offended that the freedom of others be restricted." he said.
“
The free market allows for expression of disfavor by simply not purchasing a game that may be offensive.”
“
We Muslims consider the mixing of music and words from our Holy Koran deeply offending," said one of the posters who originally pointed out the Muslim passages to Sony.
“
The fact that the music writer is a devout Muslim should highlight that at the core of this issue is not about offending ‘all Muslims,’ but only about freedom of expression and the free market,” countered Jasser.

LittleBigPlanet? Let us know your thoughts in

Yeah, me too. If the Xiites in the middle east say it's fine, than there's just 1000 other muslin factions to be afraid of... Easier to do the recall, afte all we don't want a plane to be thrown in the sony main office....
Agreed. A person of a religious background using logic and reason. Two very rare commodities in religion!
make you mind up k?
There's more of those than you'd think. Unfortunately - and, to be fair, this probably goes for any general group of people - the ignorant ones are always the loudest.
He definitely does make the most logical point, though. I rather wish the Islamic community as a whole would listen to advice like his more often. It could have used someone like him when the Danish editorial cartoons opened such a ridiculous can of worms a few years back. It's incidents like that one that leave content providers of all kinds on edge about offending the sensibilities of certain groups.
...it *was* Danish, right? ack. I hate having to second-guess myself.
That's possibly the real worry indeed.
What's next? I cover up my wife because someone may be offended by her blond hair?
Sheesh...
Respect for the culture of a country WHEN IN THAT COUNTRY is due....but not preemptively HERE.
*Last year we planned a flight with a stop-over in teheran (never leaving the international part of the airport, never entering the country). All female passengers were required to wear a scarf over their heads when leaving the plane...
Okay, we would have been in a country where this is custom, so...no complaint there.
Flight got cancelled though*
I deal with people as humans, not as religion sides. Mean it don't make a difference if you are christian or don't believe on god or whatever. You still an human on my eyes. and I will talk and deal and live with you as that. That's it.
The Problem that most Muslims give a bad image to other people. ( no need to say any thing about that. every one of you know what is the image :) )
- The Sun, front page, tomorrow.
Make up your damn minds and admit that a great percentage of the muslim population wouldn't have liked it and it was a good thing they didn't release that bad content!
lol, yeah I do. I have an big collection too. so what. porn is awesome :) I do a lot of shits too. but I don't want to talk about
watch out for that stone.
